I'll oblige if you do, I have posted my order and spec before but now I have firm details! 25 July collection. Though car will be in uk in week commencing 14 July (TRL is on holiday so can't hand over). Very excited.

Kind of a stupid question really.

Then help,you to mod it

Last time I bought a car it was PCP so the cash up front wasn't too substantial - this time it's well over 30k cash, so what would you lot recommend: debit card on collection or bank transfer the day before?

Debit / visa debit, it covers you under insurance, while a bank transfer does not.

It's also quick and easy, bought a few cars new by card.

Yes but I heard you had someone else's credit card and then legged it quick with the keys

Not so quick and easy when it's your own card

I bit of added oomph to my new car thread:

Order history
I was 2 years into a 3 year lease, Nissan Qasqai. Actually been a great car, but I haven't been able to overtake anything. Personal circumstance change pointed me to look at getting a better car, and pay the premium to leave my lease. Loved the tech in the brand new Audi A4, and saw a cracking deal on a S-Line 3 ltd diesel with my lease company, so specced one up and ordered it and it was confirmed. Didn't hear anything for a week, when I sent them an email asking "how is order going, by the way I've seen some good prices on BMW 330's and 335's, can you quote me?". They replied that they have no record of Audi order, and now cannot find anyone that will match the original deal I signed up for (only online mind). I was livid, but then convinced myself the 5 year old 3 series is still a great car - I researched and then placed an order with same lease company.

It was at this time that I found this forum and learnt a lot more about the 3 series. Slowly my lease order upped in spec and upped in monthly rentals.

Then I found out about TRL, so thought what the heck I'll get a comparitive quote to my lease. After much studying figures and not really wanting to be tied into a longish lease, I blew out the original lease order and went with Tony.

Anyway, Tony then got the pain of me slowly upping my spec still, with countless re-sending of contracts to sign. I finally settled and final order was placed 12th May.

On 16th May I read about Model Year 2017 changes - new iDrive, possibly Carplay (which I really wanted, just to integrate my phone on Apple Music better). I emailed Tony and he said my car was locked down, cannot be changed, BUT if I really wanted to he would put this car into BMW stock and re-order for me when possible for MY2017.

That was a really amazing thing for him to have done - a £53k car that he has to take and re-sell, on the hope that I do re-order in the near future. Hats off to him - very impressed so far and highly recommended for a stress free and straightforward order process.

Finally, on 1st June, I placed a new order. It was the same spec car as before, but with EBT with wireless charing, black dakota with blue stitching - sight unseen on the latter, but now I have seen it on configurator I really like it!

So spec is:

335d M Sport Touring
Mineral Grey
Black Dakota leather with blue stitching

2VF Adaptive M Sport suspension
3AC Towbar. electrically folding
320 Model designation deletion
4GA Ash Grain w/ Metal Inlay
402 Panoramic glass sunroof
430 Exterior Mirrors - folding
459 Electric Front Seats
488 Lumbar support
5AG Lane change warning
5DC Head restraints. rear and folding
5DL Surround-view
6NW Enhanced Bluetooth with wireless charging
6WD WiFi hotspot preparation
8TH Speed limit display

ZAP Advanced Parking pack
ZIC Interior comfort pack
ZMS M Sport Plus package
ZNO Media package - Professional Plus
552 BMW Icon adaptive LED

Have also ordered some M Performance carbon interior stuff, to be fitted at dealer prior to collection.

Order status codes and dates, for those interested:

1100 Scheduled = 1/6

5000 Confirmed for Production = don't know

5200 Paintshop Start = 1/7
5270 Paintshop Complete = 1/7
5280 Pre-Assembly Storage Start = don't know
5290 Date Change = 1/7
5300 Pre-Assembly Start = 2/7
5400 Assembly Start =
5500 Assembly Complete =
6000 Transfer to Distribution =
8200 Released to Carrier =
9000 Departed Plant =
9605 Pre EU Port of Exit =
9620 At Sea =
9650 Awaiting Despatch to Dealer =
9660 In Transport =
9800 Arrived Dealer = 14/7
Handover = 25/7 (TRL on holiday!)

Had a very small regret over not ordering a 340i, but only for the exhaust and engine sound. I wanted all wheel drive and like diesel actually.

Already dreaming of a AC Schnitzer Performance Pack (£5495) but I think insurance may be a problem. Will see what I think of the suspension after a few months.

As of today, 22 sleeps to go!

Great spec and I'm impressed at the turnaround time from order to delivery. I ordered about 2 days before you and I'm set for 30th September delivery, so not even goi g to count sleeps yet. Not long to go for you now.

Guess it's all down to the spec and your dealer (whether they have a build slot). Happy with my build time

I'm at sea! Asian breeze left cuxhaven at 2pm this afternoon, bound for Southampton.

Genius says I won't make the planned 25th July handover. Shame, I've booked train tickets.

The dealership I bought mine from wanted me to do a bank transfer in advance but I told them I would pay on collection and paid it from my debit card. They were okay with that and I felt happier that I didn't part with the cash until I got the car.
