Incorrect spec used car
Hi all
I bought a nearly new car 11 days ago the car was advertised with a heated steering wheel but the car hasn't got this fitted. The sale an would look into this to see what options we have. Any ideas what I should expect? Will they look to fit the heated steering wheel. The car would bought from a BMW dealer and so far I have been happy with their service. Apart from the steering wheel the car is great, it's much more comfortable than the previous 1 series I had. Thanks for you help |

Was it from a BMW dealer? I had this when i bought my old 650i. It was supposed to have heated seats, but when i got there after driving over 300 miles, it didn't.
The sales guy said that they could look at getting them retro-fitted, but i just got them to give me a 'voucher' for when i needed some new tyres fitted, save me some cash.

Seems reasonable to ask for some small compensation to cover the missing feature. Bring in the Ad if you can still access it and show the salesperson.
Glad you like the car...any nice pics

They wouldn't retrofit the steering wheel I'd say, as others said get some cash back or vouchers for other stuff!

I had this same problem when I purchased my car.
Advertised with heated steering wheel and adaptive led's but the car did not have these features. It has led's and high beam assist Emailed the dealership that I was not happy that these features were not on my car especially as adaptive was one of the main features i wanted in the car. They tried to fob me off with their disclaimer at the bottom of the web ad saying they can't be held responsible for advertising mistakes. Contacted BMW uk and got them involved and a couple of weeks later received a cheque for £450 goodwill gesture. |

Bought an A6 for my company a few years ago. Bought over the phone and dealer was bringing it from Audi central stock. Was told it had 2k miles but it turned up with 6k.
They asked me what I wanted, I said a cheque for £1000 which was a lot given the car was already very cheap no matter what the miles were. Ok they said and cheque arrived next day. |

A pair of BMW gloves would sort things here I think
Joking apart, I remember the heated steering wheel be questioned in your original purchase thread. Did you not question it when collecting?

I asked the salesman to confirm the spec on the car, I originally thought the heated steering wheel would be activated at cold temperatures like the wing mirrors or come on with the heated seats. I also thought it was included with the interior pack. It was only after researching the heated steering wheel i was aware of the button to switch it on.

You should have asked for the VIN and run that through VIN checker to see the exact spec of the car .

That's disappointing the salesman didn't make you aware earlier. Poor show indeed.

It is rare that this happens when supplied by a BMW dealer. The spec is pulled for the AUC listing from BMW's internal system, that has the full history of the car.
You would think that if a customer questioned spec the salesman would at least get of his back side and do a proper check

The spec is on the BMW "mainframe" system which has a text based interface. This then has to be transposed with the option codes into a different system, so there is plenty of opportunity for errors. Pretty much the first thing I now ask the salesperson for is the last 7 digits of the VIN and then head over to http://bimmer.work or http://etk.cc and run the VIN decoder to find out exactly what the car has - sometimes one works and the other doesn't and vice-versa. In one instance, the car was advertised (and priced) as a standard car with 20" wheels and a few options, but the actual spec had the competition package. When I told the dealer I wasn't interested as I didn't want a CP car, they honestly didn't know and argued it wasn't as they were just going on what their own screens say. |

I think what Damien is saying is that actually it HAS got a heated steering wheel, he just hadn't spotted the (very well hidden) button. If so, you're not the first Damien ;-)
