N53 injectors

Hi

Engines a 2012 so one of the latest for injectors and it has started running a bit lumpy so I pulled four of the plugs out and two were sooty and wet. Car had been stood overnight after a 20 minute blast.

I'm aware of the injector problems these engines used to have but must admit I'd hoped they were in the past.

I have a warranty so don't expect too much of a cost but from a reliability standpoint are regular injector failures still a thing for piezo injectors?

Thanks
Mike

How many miles have yours done? Just changed all mine at 65,000. Some of them were pretty gummed up. I suspect your warranty company will be reluctant to cover replacing all six. It's been suggested on here before that if you're changing one or two, you're best to change them all, as the others will likely go bad soon after. This is because the injectors are monitored in banks of three (cylinders 1-3 and 4-6) and the 'good' injectors have to compensate for thier 'weak' neighbours. Also worth changing your plugs at the same time.

It's interesting that BMW has now gone back to solenoid-operated injectors and ditched piezos.

BTW there was an injector recall on your engine. Have you checked if it was done?

It wasn't an injector recall as I understand it, but a quality enhancement (recall lol) for coil packs. It's had the coil packs changed in 2013 and no other recall outstanding confirmed by BMW.

Warranty is mondial. I read the codes and it's also showing nox errors.

Engine is on 40,500 miles. Doesn't inspire confidence.

It's in an f10 BTW not an e9x, not that it matters.

By the time you factor in lost time and 1500 quid for replacements etc the mpg doesn't start to look so good does it!

Just to clarify there definitely was a recall on your injectors as follows:

Defect Code: 0013050200
Description: Ex Fx N53 N54 ECE: Check injectors and replace if necessary.

The coil pack recall was separate, as follows:

Defect Code 0012230300
Description: E6x E8x E9x N43 N53: Replace ignition coil (Bosch).

Cars now in for injector replacement. Computer says Cylinder 2 was faulty initially so tech replaces it, coil and plug. Puts it back together, no codes, takes for a run and then computer says cyl 6 is faulty. So, replacing injector coil and plug. It's taking one day per cylinder so at this rate I may have it back by Saturday if I'm lucky. I know cylinder 3 injector is leaking as the plug was wet. Tech won't look at that till computer says so.

Crazy but then if the warranty is paying so what. Good job I don't axtually need the car.

Warranty just saved me 6 injectors so yeah I'm grateful for that. But at 60 quid per month (f10) and as my car is on 40k I'm considering dropping the warranty also as the dealer has said this work is covered by 2yr warranty. So that's 2 years of injector cover at which point at my annual mileage I'll still be under 60k so will resume monthly at that point. Or sell the car as ive lost a bit of faith in it.

Under 40 quid on a sub 60k e90 isn't it? Good value.

I've had other items go in the past such as a complete headlight - circa £1300 claim on warranty. Also had idrive stuff. So over the years it has move than paid for itself

Hi, does this recall apply for all N53 equipped models? I just bought an E92 2010 LCI on 110.000 km (German car). I really hope it does, because it looks like I was badly scammed by the seller...
My engine is doing the same as most of yours, on cold start idle is shaking, when temp is higher no issue, so I guess its a start of the problems.

I have a fault code too: "003104 rough running stratified charge operation"

I had that code and FWIW it remained after all the injectors were replaced. I found the biggest improvement has actually been to replace the coil packs and I got four from ECP (delphi) for 56 quid delivered. Only needed four as dealer replaced two already. Worth a try? Or remove your plugs and if any are wet after car has been standing you have a duff injector.

Austrian BMW dealer says only the coil recall was available for my car (E92 325i,2010) and it was already done previously.

Update, now I got this e-mail from the Dealer:

"Concerning our records from the headquarter BMW Munich, your BMW series is not affected of any other recalls.
I have looked it up again, to be sure. BMW told me that your vehicle is one out of few, which is not affected."

What a luck....
