Getting the car on 4 jack stands
I'm looking to DIY some brakes soon and wanted to know how everyone is getting this car on 4 jackstands.
My plan is to jack up one side of the rear, place stand on the front. Then do the same for the other side. Then jack up the car from the diff and place last 2 jack stands on the rear of the car. Not sure if this will work in practice so if I'd like to hear what others are doing.

I want to do a tranny fluid swap also.
Joined my local chapter of BMW of America Car Club. Signed up for a tech-session at a local dealership. Was the first to arrive that Saturday Morning was maybe the last one to get up on a lift. Simply wasn't right - some B.S. about longest tenured club members getting on lift first. I figured everyone paid same amount, no idiotic rules like that would be enacted. |

There are four defined jacking points. If you lift only one at the back eventually the front will also lift on the same side. If you lift both sides evenly at the back the front wheels will remain on the ground.
Put the fronts on jack stands, and when you jack the rear the opposite side will come off the ground as well. Since your dumping fluid it will be better because the back will be lower than the front. Or, you could You can jack up at the defined body points, put the axle stands under the suspension mounting points and lower the car onto the stands. Or, you could jack up under the suspension points (rear)and lower the car onto the defined body points. Either way would do what you want. |

Super helpful thanks! For the fluid swap, do you think it would be a good idea to go through the gears to get out any fluid that didn't drain itself?
