Production delay

I like everyone else on 'status 1100' am in that lull where I'm busy pootling around in my £500 runabout whilst I'm waiting for my new car to arrive. It would be fair to say my Volvo S40 is functional and the cassette player is a real bonus! However, just been onto BMW genuis and my new order has slipped back from week 28 to week 30 now.

When my car was ordered it went from September to December so it's not as bad as it could be!

I can envisage this getting worse! I will leave it now until July, as it's driving me mad already! As long as it's here by October...as my other half said to me when I got the runabout:
"I don't mind sitting in your Volvo, but I'm not going to drive to our wedding venue in THAT!"
So, BMW are in serious trouble with the future wife if it slips back any further!

I currently have a week 33 build, can I ask when you ordered?

Thanks.

Hmm, ordered my 340 on the 8th May, but my build date is still currently 3 weeks later than yours.

I think my dealer was a bit slow getting my order in.

Did any of you spec Pro Nav?
If so, that will account for some of your delay, unless it was a standard feature for the model ordered.

The factory which produces the Pro Nav unit was affected by the recent earthquakes in Japan, so production is limited. As a result, build priority is being given to orders for vehicles which have Pro Nav as standard.

The more I see these threads of delays and wait times for new cars, it puts me off buying a new car. I would tempted to browse online for a spec I liked in a very newly listed used car or an ex-demo which are always highly spec'ed and not have the hassle of waiting.

There are 4 manufacturers that produce the Pro Nav iDrive systems for BMW so I very much doubt this is the reason for delay plus they don't normally give certain models priority over others.

Don't dispair too much. I had to wait 6 months to get my (due for delivery by the end of the month). Just distract yourself with something else and time will fly.

I think I'll have to! As a matter of interest, do build dates fluctuate a lot, once the car has been ordered then, in the experience of others?

They generally only fluctuate when there is a supply issue of a part or parts. When my car was ordered, the M Sport brakes were the supply issue. There is the factory shut down in August so if yours gets pushed back so far it might go back further due to that anyway. You should get it by October though.
