Oil Quantity / Level?

Morning,

car has recently been serviced and the garage left me the remaining oil in the boot from the 2 x 4l containers.

the oil level sensor was showing ok but just above the low level mark, so I topped up with oil. it has had nearly 7l and it hasn't budged up the scale?

any ideas?

thanks

Don't put any oil in until the computer tells you. Once this happens put exactly 1L in and it will register to the maximum.

Garage List
Give it a while to settle down after the change. You may well find it will rise to full.

You are following the correct method I take it? From the owners' manual:

"For a precise measurement and display of the
oil level, it is necessary that the engine be at
operating temperature, i.e. after uninterrupted
driving for at least approx. 6.2 miles/10 km. You
can have the oil level displayed while you are
driving, or while the vehicle is at a standstill on
a level surface and the engine is running."

The car's readout is pretty crap.

If you want to really know how much oil is in it then use INPA or an app like Carly. Then you can add as much as you need.

The idrive and BC readout can vary alot up and down depending on the angle the car is at when it's measured. It'll only tell you about the top 1 litre as well.

In the past if mine was half way down after measuring on a flat surface I'd add some and then let it remeasure.

It's a shame they ditched the dipstick. This stupid electronic measurement causes all kinds of questions and confusion.
