Dpf delete

This may have been asked already but if I change my dpf for a dpf delete will the car still drive ok without a map or go into limp mode? I know I will need to get it mapped but was wondering if the car was still usable?

It'll drive fine.

My brothers 320d never had a DPF, but he fitted an Alpina turbo and we flashed on an Alpina map to suit. The Alpina did however have a DPF, so he has the DPF warning up on the dash but the car drives fine. Its been like that for well over 5 thousand miles too.
