Autoglass

Anyone used autoglass to replace their rear window ?

Just wanted to know what your experience was like ?

Also if you go through BMW do they just outsource the work to a 3rd party like autoglass anyway ?

Thanks

Not normally a problem. I always found them professional and friendly.

Like anything there are good fitters and bad had a really terrible job done by them with trim damage and poor sealing which was rectified by them without too much of a fight and then at another time had a perfect job to the point you would never know they had been there apart from the non oem markings. I only wish they would fit or give an option to fit oem marked glass instead of their own.

All my experiences with different companies have been spot on tbf.

There are good and bad in all professions but they do tend to have a comeback if any issues arise. So will happily redo a screen etc if any issues.

Yours is the rear which is slightly easier I think.

You can have genuine glass fitted. I have each time I have had one replaced. As you always go through your insurance they generally always have a £1k limit on the cost of replacement for both glass and fitting combined so I've always specified to the insurance before getting them to book out the windscreen company that an OE glass is to be used.

Where abouts are you? They'll probably be quite expensive for just fitting.

If you let me know where you are I can possibly recommend a company.

What's the state of the car it's being fitted to? Is it smashed so needs the old bond cutting out etc or has it been removed in one piece?

I had an insurance job replacement screen with them and had a complete shocker!

the technician ripped my car to bits... huge gash in the dashboard, damage to the internal and external trim, scratches on the paintwork, fitted the screen poorly the list is endless...

it is all about the technician doing the job. he used tools he shouldn't have been using like a Stanley knife, didn't put protective covers down, rushed etc.

when I complained he denied it all but the little angel didn't realise I had it all under my work CCTV! ended up being a pricey job for autoglass!!!

Ah if you were closer I would have even offered to do it myself if I still had some kit! Removal instead of cleaning the mess up is a much nicer job - lol.

If you contact someone like Autoglass, National Windscreens etc make sure you let them know it's a heated rear that needs a removal and refit of new glass.

Have you double checked the connections on the glass just out of interest? They usually only stop working because the solder on the connections dry up. You can have these repaired which is a much nicer job than having the screen replaced.
