FRM3 Help Needed

Today my battery died on me while my car was turned off for about 5 minutes, after i jumped it the FRM was not working properly, no interior lighting, no control of mirrors, blinkers, highbeams or cornering lights. I have done some research on this and have seen that I can do this myself using INPA and other things but I am unsure of what my specific car needs in order to successfully reprogram this device. If someone could please lead me in the right direction it would be great. I am in a 2011 335xi with nav. Any guidance is apprecieated

I'm sorry to say that your FRM3 is likely fried. You can try to recover it with BMW Standard Tools and a DCAN cable but you'll more than likely have to erase and reflash the eeprom direct to the IC. It's common with the FRM3. It's ultra sensitive to voltage fluctuations.

So what exactly will i need to buy to reflash my FRM? A DCAN cable, BMW inpa software and what else?

This would be my plan of action:

1. Diagnose car:

Using either: Carly app, INPA+DCAN cable, Rheingold+DCAN cable

Try to read fault codes stored by be FRM. If faults are returned this is good, you can deal with them.

If you get a message, like 'CANNOT COMMUNICATE WITH CONTROL UNIT' or see IFH-0009, but you can communicate with other ecu's then you know your FRM is fried and only specialist tools / knowledge will fix it. (See my FRM3 Resurrection Thread in this forum).

2. If you can communicate with the control unit, fix any errors brought up by diagnosis. If you can't, but a new FRM3 and code it to your car, or repair old one as instructed in the resurrection thread.

3. If still not working, code the FRM back to default using NCS-Expert.

4. If still not working, flash the FRM with Winkfp and latest spdaten.
