BMW extended warranty
Hi there gents
Just wondering how many of us are still using the BMW assured warranty? I've just renewed it on my 2011 E91 Sport Plus and paid just over £350 with an excess. I've just read on babybmw.net about some horror story's of premiums shooting skywards after the 60,000mile mark. My cars mileage was just over 50k at the renewal point so am just wondering if I'm due for a shock with time next year! |

As soon as you hit 60k, the warranty price almost doubles in price.
Having said that, the BMW extended warranty is fantastic and in my opinion, better than the Warranty Wise/Warranty Direct equivalents so I always recommend it. With it being a BMW product, (though the actual insurer is Mondial), the dealerships can deal direct with the insurer. £350 is a good price!

The BMW warranty is excellent, but I guess you have to weigh up what may break against the cost of the warranty. If it doubles to £700 a year then you may need to give it some serious thought.
When I bought my 98 540i in 2002 it had the remainder of an extended BMW warranty on it & I renewed it every year for the 2 1/2 years I kept it. The cost was around £350 a year back then, but that did include a guy with a 5 series tourer that used to turn up & usually fix it when it broke down. (Which was quite often) Glad I had it though, as it had under warranty; A pair of cats, 3 visits to Lind Maidstone to try & diagnose, it wasn't until it broke down & their roadside assistance guy turned up & said it had a partially blocked cat that it got sorted! Lambda sensor New shocks all round Water pump Top hose Fuel pump Prop shaft coupling The car had done 69k when I bought it & 95k when I sold it.

I've paid to extend my warranty for the last 3 years, current mileage is 130k and i pay £60 a month. I've more than had my moneys worth over the years
I'll keep paying unless they hike it by a ridiculous amount, its such good peace of mind. Yesterday my engine management light came on and i lost power. Am i bothered? Not at all. I'll call BMW tomorrow and they'll sort at no cost. Thats worth the £60 a month to me. |

Mine went from £43 to £45 when it kicked over the 60k mark but then I was literally just ticking over at the yearly renewal so will be interesting to know next year now.
On my M5 it was only £55 a month but yes usually once over 60k miles it does go up quite a bit depending upon whether it's an M or not. It's worth the monthly though.

I pay £43 per month with a £100 excess. This is a continual policy so don't get a renewal notice it just keeps going until I tell them otherwise.
My car is a 2006 335i with 72K. Last November the water pump went and the AA towed me home as it was late Friday night. Saturday morning I rang BMW to let them know the car was coming to them for warranty work and then asked them nicely to tow the car for me, even though I didn't have their recovery service, and to my surprise they agreed and picked the car up from my house on a flatbed free of charge as I had already used my one free tow via the AA to get me home. So far very happy with the BMW Warranty. |

I continued it on my 2011 E91 cost was £350 with an excess if it's needed. I will be above the 60k mark more than likely when it rolls around for renewal next year and dependant on price I will go for it again for the piece of mind.

I just got a quote on my soon to be 12 plate e91 with 80k on it, price quoted was £720. Which isn't too bad really. I've heard (and read now) very good things about the warranty. Seriously tempted.

I started out paying £23 per month in 2007. This gradually increased to £29 in 2013. Now with more than 100,000 miles it is £38 per month with a £250 excess.
What pisses me off is that there are no hard and fast rules when the dealership administers the warranty. There are too many grey areas of "wear and tear" versus outright mechanical failure or poor design. Surely there has to be a point where it is no longer worth it? To me it feels like if I go in with any issues now with 110,000 miles on the clock that they are more likely to say that due to age and mileage factors it is wear and tear. It is hard to define the "life time" of a car and there is no legal definition either. Having claimed more than £10,000 worth of work on the warranty over the years they must hate me... but it has been it's weight worth in gold. |

I had a tonne of aggro with BMW over wear and tear on my z4. They define 'the life of a car' as 60,000miles!!! So for some stuff, you'll never get them to pay out.

I was looking at getting this on my 335i it has 136000 miles now though so I doubt there will be any point they will just say anything that goes wrong will be wear and tear

They would only do driveline insurance if the car is over 100k.

My quote was around £950 for a 2007 330d with 88000 on the clock, just as well I haggled a 2 year warranty with the deal, monthly is definately the way to go.

Mine has over 100k - Only Driveline option available to me, which I have had since the original warranty ran out. I just renewed it in March for £495 with a £250 excess.
It does however just cover the engine/gearbox/drive gear. Given that I have the N47 engine, I decided to keep the warranty based on various issues. My DMF went yesterday and since researching options, found that I have the N47 D20C engine not the N47 D20A; The D20C is the one with the issues addressed and is the newer engine. That said and with my experiences yesterday, I am not sure I will bother renewing next April. With your mileage and spec, what is peace of mind worth? If you can afford it, then I would keep the BMW warranty going. Once you hit 60k price will go up, but so will your chances of having things go wrong. |
