Oil Change at 8000 miles? per BMW Maintenance

The maintenance computer on my 2015 228i is estimating my next oil change to be in 8000 miles or 12 months after my most recent change.

The maintenance computer requested an oil change 1 year from the build date which was 8 months after my purchase and only 6000 miles. This sounds fine since technically the oil has been in the car for 12 months.

But after the oil change it now estimates I will need another change in 8000 miles or April 2017. Do you think this is because of all the short trips I am taking (several 5-10 mile round trips a week) or would it be some other factor. I did take it for one track day a few weeks ago.

As a comparison my 2010 128i only indicated a change at 17000 miles and I had three track days on it and drove it to work five days a week for a total of 14 miles a day.

Curious?

You're 128 was on the BMW 15K miles or 1 year interval .Our cars are on the 10K 1year maximum interval because BMW must have realized 15k is waay to long between oil changes. So the service would be called for sooner now.I don't where the 17 K would have come from. Be happy. 5K is a good oil change interval for direct injected engines anyway.

Does anyone change his/her oil between recommended maintenance schedules? If so, what oil do you use?

it's not 10K specifically.. it's about 10-12k on average.... but it's really whatever computer says depending on how you drive... could be 5k 9k 12k 10k etc.... but for sure it's at the latest 1 year since last change or production date...

Computer does weird things like it might say it's 7k till next change...then 2k miles go by and still shows 7k till next change

I do one every 5-6k which falls in between the 10-12k that you get for free from BMW.... I use BMW oil which is now made by shell... I don't like switching brands...

Do you do it yourself (the oil change)? How do you measure the oil level?

Also, do you think the BMW oil can withstand 15psi+ of boost?

Thanks.

Yeah I just go to the dealer and get 7 quarts and filter, you get 10% off if you are BMWCCA. There is not much to measure, just take old oil out and put 7 bottles in, you can just measure through idrive when you are done

Then I have ramps and a filter cap to take the filter off.

Not sure about the 15psi but really doubt oil would be the issue
