Anyone install the Performance Suspension Yet?

I'm taking PC delivery 5/6 and having the suspension swapped immediately on return. For those who have done the switch, can you comment on a comparison of stock v. performance?

Bit early for this question, don't you think?

And belongs in the Suspension forum.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the delivery hold April 16?

So you have maybe a few people who got their cars a couple days early, fine.

You expect those lucky few, within a matter of a day or two, develop a sense of the stock suspension, yank it off, install the performance suspension, and develop a sense of it in order to post a useful impression?

All that, AND you couldn't put this thread in the correct forum?

Better yet, just post the question in one of the many performance suspension threads that already exist.

Edited for grouchiness.

I am indeed you are correct. But seriously...do you see the amount of threads created on here with no regard for sub forums, etc.?

Anyway, I should be in a better mood, it's a Friday.

Carry on talking about who's installed a modified suspension on a car that hasn't even been release yet.

I was super close to pulling the trigger but decided I wanted to drive around on the stock setup a bit first as PrematureApex mentioned. Trying not to get ahead of myself on mods just yet. Restraint is hard.

Not sure if this member has the performance suspension. But he lowered the car already.

I was planning to get the suspension but thought it wise to drive the car for a while first before deciding. I like the stock suspension for daily driving, it's firm, the car drives very flat with no slop, yet it is well damped. Feels like a perfect daily driver that is trackable. If you're buying this car as mainly a track toy then sure installing the suspension right away would make sense. Otherwise, might want to drive it for a while before buying it.

I don't read?

Did I not specifically say that some people have picked their cars up already?

I am purchasing this vehicle specifically to serve as a track toy.

Honestly, I don't think the M2 is the best thing to pick if you're primarily worried about track use. A no-option M2 + performance suspension + installation is in the ballpark of $55k, without taxes. That same amount of money will buy a prepped car, a trailer to put it on, and a truck to tow it behind. There'll still have enough money left over to pay for several years of storage.

Advantages to the M2:
Less complicated life (only one vehicle).
Very neat car.

Advantages to "real" track car:
Chances are, it'll run better lap times.
Lower cost of consumables (check out the price delta between 17" and 19" Hoosiers), plus a 2800 lb car is a lot easier on tires and brakes than a 3400 lb one.
The ultimate sensitivity you get with a suspension which doesn't have to make any compromises for the street. Plus, cars are more lively when they're not dragging around several hundred pounds of comfort and convenience.
The G-forces you can generate with real aero bits.
What happens if s**t happens: If it all goes pear-shaped in a prepped car, you'll be surrounded by a jungle-gyms worth of tubing to protect you, you'll have real harnesses strapping you into a seat designed to handle impacts, your neck will be protected by a HANS, and one quick pull on a red handle will dispense a bunch of fire suppression. If you total the car, you'll be walking away from much less money, and if you merely bend it, it's a lot less upsetting to beat bodywork back into shape on a 15 or 20 year old car than on a brand-new one.

Having said the above, I am going to track my M2. But, it's not going to be very often, and I'm going to be *very* choosy about the events. The last year seems to have seen an uptick in the yahoo contingent at public track days. Most of the time, I'm gonna be grinning like an idiot in the the good ol' GTS-2 E36, despite knowing it'll be a little slower than the M2.

I think the biggest problem here is what settings will you run when you install it? No feedback to base it on and getting the ride height or compression wrong could mean you'll run the drive in your car, and ruin that new car experience.

No doubt the recommended BMW technician setup will not be that aggressive.

I'd go stock for a while and then change

Not worried at all about track use. As an ex-club racer and HPDE instructor for 15+ years, I am well aware of the cost effectiveness and advantages of a "real" track car. Not too concerned about the costs of using this vehicle as a dedicated track car. I do feel that the aftermarket will be huge for this vehicle and that it will serve me very well for years to come. If not, we'll see what else is out there. Thank you for your input.
