Having trouble downloading usb map from my connected drive

I managed to get BMW to add my car to my connected drive and now I am trying to download my usb map update .

I have download the BMW update manager onto my laptop(window 10) , when I click on map download , nothing happens ( try saving to a usb and the "C"drive of the laptop .

I am wondering if anybody had the same issue and could point me it what I am doing wrong

Cheers

Hi Kenny, not sure what you mean by 'BMW update manager'....you should only need to enter your chassis number here....

http://www.bmw.com/com/en/owners/con...re_update.html

and then click on download update. Or is that what you've been doing?

In connected drive on your PC you have to download the Update Manager which is a separate program which then controls the map download. You then download the map to the USB. Not sure what's happened in Kenny's case.

What you need to do is download the update manager and put it in a folder. Then download the map to the same folder. You then need to open the update manager, that will control the download and will download the map to your USB.

I had similar problems. Are you at the stage where you are trying to get the map to actually download, or have you downloaded it but can't get the update manager to recognise your USB device?

Did you follow my earlier post?

Download the Update Manager to a folder. And then, download the map update to the same folder so you have something like the below.

Then, double click the update manager and it should start the process and give you the below window.

Click start download and it will start the download which should take a few hours.

Roberto's correct. The Update Manager is dumb until you download the additional small config file from the Connected Drive website into the same folder . The dialog box he posted earlier is actually from the Connected Drive website/portal, not Update Manager. It's slightly misleading because the website says "download digital map" when in reality it downloads that config file to your PC/Mac (called "dlmconfig.bmw"). As long as they're in the same folder, it tells the Update Manager which version/map to get for your specific car. You then use Update manager to get the actual map.

Exactly. Kenny, go to My Connected Drive and then click on My Services > Map Update and you will see the download links there.

When you say click on the map link, are you doing it from 'My Connected Drive'?

And then clicking on 'Download Digital Map' from the 'My Services' > 'Map Update'?

Ok - as per my post above, clicking "download map" within the Connected Drive website only triggers a tiny (blink and you'll miss it) config file download. On a Mac, you'll see a little icon fly into your downloads folder. On Windows, it should prompt you to Open or Save As. Either way, you need to save then put that little file into the same folder as your Update Manager.

On running the Update Manager, it then uses that config file to identify the precise map download relevant to you. You will see within update manager (as per Roberto's screenshots) a "Start Download" button and map version. The map only downloads from Update Manager, not the BMW website.
