Authentic german reg plate surrounds

Does anyone know where to get these from? I know that the ///M / Mpower ones aren't genuine, as the plates are typically specific to a dealership.

If i wanted to get some, do i need to phone one of the dealerships in Germany and try to get them to send me some?

Thanks

No idea, but put me down for a set if a GB emerges out of this!

I'm sure I recall seeing a similar thread before. I think you can contact some dealers in Germany and if you agree to pay the postage costs, they should send you the number plate surrounds at no extra cost

Yes but one from a dealership. The ///M related ones aren't genuine.

Thanks the plates were from an eBay seller Taxdiscman I think his name was. If purchasing some just make sure they are proper UK legal ones and have the following correct font and spacing, are fully reflective, have the makers name and postcode laser etched in the bottom centre and finally have the correct BSU code marking also laser etched where it should be.

Overall I have run metal plates and proper German surrounds on 3 cars spanning approx 10years (these have Been on the BM for the year that I have currently owned it) only ever had compliments about them and only been questioned on the legality by police once at a random vehicle spot check, another time when I was pulled for the plates in fairness the copper just wanted to see them close up and inspect the markings and it was early hours all was good he was happy and let me go. And another was a traffic officer friend who saw my first ever set and checked them over for me (wasn't sure if they were legal or not) and then bought some for his own car.

I've been running pressed plates too for a good few years now on previous cars as well on my current E91 and never had an issue. Like Rent-A-Goat I've always had them done to proper UK spec with everything he mentioned above and it's been fine.

The only problem I've ever had with pressed plates was ones I've purchased that have not been pressed on a pneumatic press as these started to peel and blister as a result of my Karcher pressure washer but since buying metal plates done in a pneumatic press they have been fine.

Eventually bought them and had them shipped to a relative in Germany, who brought them over when they visited.

I'll post some pics

Edit:

Insta-image below. Will add some pictures of them on the car after work.

Sounds like they have taken their ball in don't understand it as if the embraced it and charged and shipped to uk they would be onto a winner. Was that the main dealer in Munich? Maybe try another German dealership who aren't as often contacted. Munich will be the main port of call as the headquarters are there and most cars are manufactured there mine was hence I wanted the Munich surrounds.

Did you speak in English or German to them to start with or write in English or German?

I wrote to BMW Germany, in German. They passed my email to BMW UK, who then said that i need to speak to my nearest BMW parts place to get anything. I've gone back to them with Pictures...

I wanted plates from Regensberg really as that's where my car was made, but there isn't a BMW dealership in Regensberg.

I'm going to NW Germany in a few weeks time, so if I don't have any luck, i'll try to find a BMW dealership there and pick some up.

Ah right that's a bit of progress and not a flat no then but I thought the plate surrounds were somthing bought in by the dealers and not supplied by BMW directly to them I could be wrong tho.

The only other suggestion I have is to write to a BMW dealership directly in German and not BMW Germany head office like you have done as then if they are bought in by the individual dealer and not supplied direct you might have some luck I spoke with the dealer in Munich not BMW headquarters

You unscrew your old plates and screw the surrounds on in their place then to fit the plates there's a clip below each surround you pop that and the surround hinges open you slide your plate in the guides and close the surround down till it re locks and your done.
