How is the radio?

Just curious how the stock stereo system sounds?

I know that's very subjective, but I haven't seen any comments about it.

I'm liking it a lot. SA set it up for me when I took delivery and love how it automatically syncs to your Itunes.

It's not bad. It does not have eq control only bass/treble so your limited on adjustments. I find fm and satellite radio to sound poor. Far to much compression in the satellite radio stream to sound good to my ears. I find the Amazon music app to stream some of the best quality sound and when streaming through that app (or similar) it sounds good.

Of course, wether you think it sounds good or not will depend on your tastes and previous experiences..

Its the same Harman kardon system that's in the M cars and optional on the other F series. I have this system on my current car and I do believe it has an EQ. I'll go take a pic of it later.

I wish mine did, that's all I'd need to be perfectly content with it. Maybe there is a hidden menu with more adjustments.

For this car, I am not going crazy with multiple amps and a separate sub. Leaving it stock for the foreseeable future..

Nope! Now why in the world would they get rid of that option for the M2!?

I'm not sure how you can say that. The M2 has 4 fewer speakers (2 less tweeters and 2 less midrange). Also driven by 240 less watts:

M2
5 x 26mm metal-matrix dome tweeters in the dashboard, front and rear
2 x 217mm woofers (central bass) below the front seats
5 x 100mm ALumaprene midrange speakers in the dashboard, front and rear
Harman Kardon DSP amplifier in Class-D technology with 360-watt total output

M3 and M4
7 x 26mm metal-matrix dome tweeters in the dashboard, front, side and rear
2 x 217mm woofers (central bass) below the front seats
7 x 100mm ALumaprene midrange speakers in the dashboard, front, side and rear
Harman Kardon Logic 7® DSP amplifier in Class-D technology with a total output of 600 watts

I saw that on the site and I mentioned it to a friend and he said he checked the part numbers and it's all the same for the amp.

I know this may be a silly question but do you definitely have the HK stereo fitted? Here in Oz the Pure version of the M2 comes with the HiFi system which may not have the eq control & the Harmon Kardon is only available in the top spec model.

The M2 only 10% less passenger space than then M3 (90 vs 99 ft^3), but 25% less speakers (12 vs 16).
However, the M4 also has identical interior volume to the M2 but same number of speakers as the M3.

HK is a standard option in the US. We get very few options here which are:

Executive package
Manual/DCT
Pick 1 of 4 colours

Oh ok, in that case yes it's very strange why there is no Eq control.

The controls would have added to the vehicle weight, and this is intended to be a "purist" car.

I see on bmwusa.com the M3 lists 600w but M4 list 360w can you confirm if this is accurate?

Since you are in the US and the M2 there has H/K fitted standard, there should be EQ settings somewhere (Settings -> Tone ->Equalizer).

Well, I'm a believer now (or a Belieber? ). I've searched around and to my surprise, the H/K system in the F2x 1/2 Series does not have any EQ settings in iDrive. Yet the old 1 Series had it.

mind = blown

The M2 HK does not sound quite as good as the 3 series HK. It's still very enjoyable, but ever so slightly less impressive. So just turn it off and listen to the exhaust instead. Sploosh.

But, then you're listening to the fake sound created by ASD.
