Love the line about this being the "sensible choice" compared to the 6x6. That's like saying a little blow is fine bc it's not a needle drug.

Yes this was introduced as a concept in Geneva over a year ago, and officially announced for production last summer.

The most interesting thing about this truck to me isn't that it's a purpose-built offroad vehicle and so forth. The most interesting thing is that it is still one of the few Mercedes vehicles to use the 4.0L turbo V8 in non-AMG form (M176).

Good to know, totally missed that. Last G I drove was a bullet proof G55. Thing was a monster, although I'd skip the armor for sure.

Agreed. Consumer Reports did not give a favorable review for this car and they also came to the same conclusion. There are much smarter buys on the market.
