Steering wheel material peeling after 8 months

The m-sport steering wheel on my 228i is already peeling somehow. It's mostly near the top where I don't touch so I'm assuming it's due to the California sun. Is there anything I can use to prevent further damage and maybe restore it some? I may have to buy a windshield sun shade.

Take it to dealer for an opinion.
Also is that your only car ? Be kind of neat to send steering wheel out for a custom alcantara or leather wrapping

I think it should. I had an '11 Z and the BMW logo on the steering wheel starting to breakdown (the finish was wearing and I definitely never had my hands there).

In any case, they couldn't just replace the emblem and ended up replacing the air bag. All under warranty and no discussion.

I'll bet yours will be too! Keep us posted.

What ever happened with this? I have the same issue, car is almost 2 years old and the finish is coming off my wheel with just a towel and water.

Does your wife / gf drive after using lotion on hands? That will cause what you're describing in a rather short amount of time.
