To all Coders- Get your hands on an M2 and code away!

Getting my E90 coded was one of the most useful "mods" I had done to my car...

I know the M2 community may be smaller in volume, but we will not lack enthusiasm..

I'm really only interested in useful things, like the fake exhaust in the cabin. That has to come off.

Most of the codes should be standard 2er codes.

Can we do this ourselves or is it paying for a program to install on your laptop and buying a ODB?

I think pulling the ASD cable from my HK ampilifier will be easier :P

Has long as you have a laptop capable of running Windows on it (WinXP or 7 are preferred I believe) then you can do it yourself. In the 2Addicts forums you can post asking for the necessary software and you'll probably get a PM pretty quick with links to download ESys and the latest psdzdata. Then it's a matter of buying a cable off ebay or the like or you may be able to make yourself one.

http://www.2addicts.com/forums/showthread.php?t=997749 is probably the best place to start. I would expect the M2 is going to be rather similar to the other F22/23s.

I've got ESys running on a Win7 VM on my MacBook Air and have used it to code my 228i, hopefully will do the same with my M2 next year

There are also many coders in the NE Tri-state area that you can travel to for a reasonable price. All of whom have plenty of experience with F platform. bimmerscoding.com is a sponsor here

I'm not exactly sure what your comment is implying...but I found coding my E90 to be of tremendous convenience. Did away with the silly warning sign every time the iDrive started. My mirrors folded in coordination with doors locking and unlocking. The Alpina flash for AT's was a noticeable improvement. I liked having my gauges lit all the time. Little things, but it all added up..

It's BS and overly complicated to do it.

Depends on how much they are asking and for what options vs your cost for the tools, and how many times you'd actually use them.

F series works off a TCIP system, rather than D+KAN....No OBDII to ethernet cable ans e-sys, and data or know how to extract and modify existing data...

Im a beginner...But i had a pro coder try to code out ASD and he made it clear you cant...U can change the sound or make it a little queiter but not turn it off or down enough.

Ive read about just unplugging the ASD amp on HK systems...That works on some cars, not M2...Trust me I tried. Its integrated and the sound in is fiber opt....

Technik harness is only option.

I just coded my M2. I am on that 2addicts thread quite a bit. I had an M235i before. Everything coded is pretty similar to F22.

Couple things I coded -
  • Remove idrive disclaimer
  • Disable seatbelt alerts
  • disable seatbelt icon in dash
  • Roll windows up/down via FOB
  • Roll windows up via Comfort access
  • Fold/unfold mirrors via FOB and comfort access
  • Disabled side amber lights (blinkers still function)
  • Increased halo brightness from factory 8% to 100%
  • Close windows on rain detection
  • LED under doors handles on reverse
  • Disabled headlight washers
  • Enable video playback while driving
  • GPS sync for clock

Also - apparently you can disable ASD via coding - parameter = Model Range in the ASD ECU change from F87 to F020/F021

Not sure if this works or not. I guess I cannot hear, because I never notice the ASD. Also like to drive with the windows down.

And that is correct. F series communicate via TCP/IP over OBD to RJ45. I also have a DKAN cable, I have coded numerous E series as well. Completely different. Requires different software and cable.

Anyone have success in getting the dash backlighting to remain on during the day?

"codemycar.com", the guy I used, is aware of the issue; he said he's going to work on it; perhaps if more people inquire, someone can crack it..

Congrats on coding. Sounds like some nice features. How much brighter are the lights? Were there any other codes available to chose from? I'd like to remove auto blip, turn music off with car, a single door pull to unlock and open door, and have car start in same drive mode that it was last in.
Any idea if any of if these options exist yet? I'd love to see a master list. There are probably other things that I haven't even thought of that I'd select.
Does anyone know how long it usually takes the coding community to get a good handle on a new model? thanks all

Yes I would assume. Obviously this is hours of usage.

DRLs run at 100%, so this is only halos/lights at night. So depends how much you use that part. I dont drive at night.... that much in this car.

thanks. there is a list on the thread on 2addicts posted above.

what is auto blip?

You can turn music off when you open door.

You can code to unlock door at shutoff - only requires one pull instead of 2

Cannot change start mode. No one figured that out yet. I think you can do comfort or eco. So no sport yet
