arrrgghh

I knew it. Ordered my 340i in Jan. Was told delivery would be first week of April. Few weeks later it had moved to mid April. A few weeks ago it has moved back again to end of April. Called the dealer today and and now being told JULY !!!!! That's unbelievable. There is no way I will accept that. They say the have lodged a complaint with BMW UK. I called them directly as well and registered my complaint.

Realistically, do you think BMW UK can do anything? Needless to say I am extremely upset and shocked.

If there's no way you will accept it then ask for your deposit back.

That's way too long, financial compensation or a high end courtesy car until it arrives

The problem is the dealer is not contractually obliged to do anything, however if you talk to them nicely and don't be an arse (not saying you would be ) then they might help out. I had a delay years ago whilst waiting for an e46 and I explained to the dealer my previous car had gone in anticipation of delivery. They lent me a nice 5 series FOC until mine arrived.

I have just threaten the dealer with an order cancellation in a polite way. See want happens. I wanted to use the car for a few trips in May and June.

It's the leather dash. Same happened to me, ended up being a 6 mth wait, so a 8-9 week delay.

Dealer took it up with BMW after car delivered, and I was given free service pack by BMW UK to compensate for delay.

I already have an F30 328i I and PXing so a courtesy car is not what I want or need. I want my new car on time. If they make wait till July, the I would want a substantial financial compensation.

Why, what is your consequential loss, resulting from the delay...

Yes, you're pi$$ed off. I was too. But deal with them fairly and they will help sort it. Seeking substantial financial compensation when you have arguably not suffered the same loss is a bit unreasonable.

Unless of course your p/ex value is decreased. But dealer should honour the agreed price.

Exactly this ^^^

If you do decide to cancel your order you could end up re-ordering somewhere else (then you will have the same delay) and possibly end up getting less for your part x - thus being worse off overall.

As others have said, being polite and constructive is your friend. Yes it probably pisses you off as you want you new toy asap but chucking your teddies out and demanding compensation is much less likely to help.

There is always alternative, you could cancell your deal, remove leather dash and go back to the end of the queue with worse deal as contribution decreased. That would be your financial compensation

that's fair comment but service pack is just over £500 and if I had to wait this long, I would need a bigger compensation! unless I would have signed on the dotted line knowing this might be the case.

I guess if you do have to wait longer, and they'll have to honour the part-ex price they gave you then you're better off waiting. If you cancel, go to another dealer, you'll probably end up with the same delivery time and maybe a new part-ex price to reflect that.

Have to agree with others on this one I'm afraid.

I completely sympathise with you, but remember the dealer is on your side and wants the car ready for you as soon as possible given they are underwriting the p/x value of your current car which will have depreciated further by a couple more months.

So it should really be BMW AG compensating - if the dealer does, then they are losing on the partex and giving you extra compensation, which seems pretty unreasonable for them as all you're losing is the opportunity of having your car on time, but nothing financially.

So I would be very nice to your dealer, as you need them on side to play hard ball with BMW AG to push your order up the queue.

I ordered my 335d with leather dash end of December, was delivered last week.

See if you can find a dealer with an allocation.

I am struggling to see the need for the dealer to provide "substantial financial compensation" as well, I'm afraid.

If the dealer honours the PX, or if you had sold your car / returned it, provided you with a courtesy car, then you haven't actually suffered any loss, therefore I can't see the basis for compensation.

But I am sympathetic to your annoyance regarding the delay, and the dealer (or BMW) may offer you a sweetener such as the service pack or some goodies FOC.

What would you consider "significant financial compensation" BTW? £50, £500, £1000, £2000 etc? if your expectations are unreasonable, prepare to be disappointed. Ultimately you can choose to cancel your order - but then you don't get a new car - you choose.

There has been a bit of a blight with Merino sheep.

This has led to a global shortage and n merino in all areas.

Sounds like BMW are feeling the pain of the merino blight.

Firstly, I never said that dealer would have to cough up the compensation. It would have to be BMW UK. And by substantial I mean £1K. There is no question the dealer will have to honour the original PX price.

I am just wondering where everyone is getting the impression that I am rude with the dealer or I am throwing out my teddies. Absolutely 100% of you would be upset in my situation and would seek some kind of compensation, so please don't judge me.

If I cancel I won't be re-ordering elsewhere. I would simply keep the 328i.

I don't think anyone is saying you are being rude; people are just advising you not to be. To expect £1,000 of compensation is ridiculous though. You're not materially out-of-pocket, just inconvenienced, and the contract you have is with your dealer (a franchise) and possibly BMW Financial services and explicitly NOT with BMW UK who have sod-all to do with it. Even so, that contract expressly excludes time is of the essence clauses and does not guarantee any set delivery date.

I think that's perhaps where the impression comes from as demanding £1000 compensation because the order has been delayed is not going to happen.

I'd be thoroughly pissed off too, don't misunderstand me, but I'd be realistic about it.

I appreciate all the advice, thanks.

I will try for compensation even if the tiny print absolves them from any liability. In such a case the should not provide any dates in the first place if such long delays are to be expected. If they don't want this customer then I will happily take my business to another manufacturer.

Well fair enough but I suppose they're bound to offer a date to strive to and, with their production forecasts, will usually be pretty reliable - they have to say something even if not guaranteed.

Other than the e46 (which was a launch model) I've been lucky enough to have mine early so I think they're generally reasonable estimates.

I certainly feel your pain though and I think you have every right to ask your dealer for some sort of goodwill gesture (I would) but I think you may have to adjust your expectations.

Ultimately, as you say, if you're not happy then vote with your feet.
