Best Wheel Cleaner for VMR wheels

Hi Detailers,

Im looking for some advice. I just got VMR 710's in hypersilver recently. I would like to buy the appropriate wheel cleaner for this type of wheel. What are your favorite wheel cleaning products on the market ?

Cleaner:
Looking for something that will keep my wheel protected and a cleaner that doesn't leave white discoloration/residue or dulls that wheel finish.

Thanks,
ToroBimmer

If you have a good maintenance schedule and wash your vehicle weekly, or every other week, brake dust and dirt should clean up with just soap and water. If you have more stubborn build up then you will need to look into a dedicated wheel cleaner like Sonax Wheel Cleaner Plus.

As far as protection goes, I am a big fan of CarPro HydrO2 for wheels. It really does not get any easier than this product! Also, the protection is great.

Let me know if you've got any other questions.

Sonax helps a lot, especially if you let your wheels get grimy.

If wash your wheels often with soap and water you won't really need any other products. Snoax will remove some of the gunked on build up that occurs when the wheels is not washed often enough.

Basic process is to wash and apply wax.

We don't know how dirty the wheels are. Sonax and regular car washing soap go a long way, and elbow grease. Get some brushes and washmitts, and use those. Don't forget about the inner wheel barrels.

Once you get those wheels sparkly clean, apply some wheel sealant like CQuartz DLUX to them. The sealant will make the maintenance washes jokingly easy, and you won't have the build up over the year. You don't want to do this type of cleaning on a regular basis. So do it the smart way.

Generally you want to treat wheels like paint. But I love this stuff.

Reviving this thread...

I got VMRs recently (gunmetal). Looking for the BEST sealant. The HydrO2 looks good, but I want something maybe a little more permanent. Suggestions? I would like to spend < $50.

Check out CarPro DLUX... this nano coating will outlast any traditional sealant or wax and should last over a year with proper routine maintenance.

Will Sonax, or any other dedicated wheel cleaner, help with cleaning/degreasing tires? The sidewall on our SUV's tires are brown, even after cleaning with water and soap.

I use BMW wheel cleaner (used it again today) and it strips brake dust down to meaningless purple run-off. It's AWESOME.

It's about the same color as Sonax, so they may use a similar chemical.

This, you can also use an APC concentrate (Meguiars D108 or D101). It's works very good and is cost effective. What tire dressing are you using? Also try this tip from Detailer's Domain (in addition to Detailed Image's suggestion), works great:

Thanks for the suggestions. I'm going to start using CarPro Perl for my dressing on the SUV. I'll definitely look into the Meg stuff as I also hear great reviews. Plus I can use it for the engine bay and undercarriage.

Surface oxidation is not something that will just wash away... you will need to use an abrasive polish to remove it.

If the lips are bare metal, any good metal polish will help. I really like Optimum Metal Polish.
