I'm in the market for a new TV. Looking for a 65". I've been looking around a bit, and have narrowed it down to these two:

I have the Sony 65" 850C.

Pros: Picture quality is awesome! Menu for smart tv is easy to use. Includes a lot of built-in smart apps. And even though 3D is more of a novelty, we picked up a few 3D blu-rays and glasses. Star Trek Into Darkness and Avengers Age of Ultron were awesome in 3D. And I just saw that it's on sale at Best Buy for $600 off retail!

Cons: The remote! Aside from power, voice, and volume/channel up and down buttons, it has only one large touchpad type button. While this works great for navigating the smart tv menu, it SUCKS when trying to type in your username and password to log into the apps like Netflix! The voice option is pretty cool though. For instance, to switch inputs you can just say "switch to cable" or "switch to Playstation". Or you can just name a show/movie and it will locate it.

Appreciate the feedback! Yes, I think it's $1,999 right now since the new Sony (and Samsung for that matter) TVs are right around the corner. The Samsung TV is $2,499.

OLED has better black levels, but also suffers from an issue where greys get pushed to black.

Plasma is no more.

If I was buying a TV today, I wouldn't. I'd wait for the new Sony/Samsungs and buy one of the top end ones. In my experience, the flagship Sony and Samsung models come closest to matching the black levels of OLED, without compressing dynamic range.

Sure. But not spending $5K. Want to keep it at half of that or below. I don't watch TV. This is more for my wife.

I have the Sony 49" xbr and it works and looks real nice, but mostly sports and movies so not a whole lot of content
The apps are nice and Netflix with 4k looks amazing
All for the stuper duper amount of $600 with a "homie" employee hook up

I have the Samsung and couldn't be happier with my choice. The curve and the 4K makes a big difference indeed...

I'm assuming you've seen this one. Been waiting for it to come down to $2500...but still sitting at 3k. If you're going the 4K route its good to make sure the tv supports HDR content ( future proof ) This one does as well as the 8500 I believe. The new models are about to come out any day now for 2016.

Bud please do your self a favor, do not fall for the bs hype. If you enjoy watching movies for their cinematic experience, spend some $$$ and buy a plasma. If you want to be a bit more current, buy an OLED which is as close to plasma as you can get. My plasma monitors have doubled in value over the last couple years. My ZT is selling for almost 3x's what I paid. The picture quality is incredible, just an absolute pleasure to watch. Before the OLED's were perfected, I was seriously depressed thinking that if one of my plasmas broke I'd be stuck having to buy a 4K led.

Also, don't buy a curved display. Don't believe me? Just ask anyone at Magnolia or read the AVS forums. Biggest prank in TV history!

So if you needed a 65" TV and wanted to spend $2,500 or less, what would you buy?

If you have a Best Buy near you, go to Magnolia. See if they have any open box items in the size you want. They'll offer the same warranty as they would on a NIB set. Second thing you can do is just put down the $2500, and finance an additional $1500 at no interest for 18 months. Your payments would be around $80/month.

It all depends how important tv is to you and your family, and if you can spot/appreciate a good quality picture. If you were looking to spend $900, I'd say pick up any LED off the floor, they're all the same these days. I don't think the plasma is a good buy. They're so unbelievably overpriced that you can just buy a killer OLED instead and get almost the same picture quality with all the modern glitz and glam.

Stay with brands that make quality product. Sony and Panasonic took a break for a while but they are back making the best quality product on the planet. Samsung and LG are still very respectable go-to's. Anything else is a huge pile. I'd rather have the worst Panasonic than the best Westinghouse.

And yes, I still laugh even if it's 18 months no interest. Save me the, "It's free money" speech. Like these people using 18 month financing actually have the $2,500 to spend a TV...they use it for budgeting purposes bc they really can't afford it, not to double their money in the stock market.

Cash or you can't afford it, simple as that.
