Powder coming out vents?? Help!

Anyone know what this could be?
This car has no signs of previous long term smokers like this power might suggest also car is very clean inside no funky smoker smells

But every time I have the fans on over the 3rd mark it starts chucking it out the vents all over the place

Any idea how to eradicate this out the fan system?

If I remember rightly, it's a part of your AC system that has failed, and needs to be replaced. Evaporator rings a bell.

There is a thread about the problem here:

http://www.e90post.com/forums/showth...r+conditioning

Sounds like it's going to be expensive problem to fix.

The same thing is common on the 1 series also. Unfortunately the fix is as per Ao1's post:

Aluminium Oxide! Not good for your health either. Claim it under warranty. Expensive job. Whole dash must come out to access the HVAC Evaporator. Poor design by Denso. It starts to disintegrate over time. The replacement part is better and updated so should see you at least 6 years without any issues.

Just replaced mine. I got the part off eBay for 1/4 of the price for exactly the same denso part that bmw were selling. I then found a bmw specialist to install the part and charge the system up. It took him 2 days and charged me £485 labour.

Hope this helps

Any idea whether the 'replacement' part was fitted in production - and if so after what build date?

EDIT: now read the other thread, and for the 3-series it's May 2006 to September 2007 cars that are affected.
