Summer Wheels Yet??
Just giving the E90 its first proper clean of the year rather than the usual quick wash & starting to get impatient about putting summer wheels back on, is it to early?
My summers are freshly refurbished 313's & I must admit I am apprehensive about putting them on too early inase they go milky due to salt still being on the roads Plan is to put them on at Easter but getting impatient!! Lol Quick pic of todays progress so far Currently on MV3's, winters came off a few weeks ago but not ready for summers yet |

Just depends what the weather is like in your area. Up here in Glasgow I wouldn't be putting summer wheels on until towards the end of April.
Have you sealed the wheels with a coating ? Think that would give them a fighting chance, the coatings weren't around when I had diamond cut wheels on my golf but I waxed them weekly and had them on right through on of the worst winters we had (2010). The wheels were pristine up until I sold the car to my sister. Then of course the weekly waxing stopped and they started to go after she kerbed one ! So I think with a coating plus if your only using them in summer they should last along time but don't rush to put them on you will just worry about them. on another note I can't wait to clean my car it's not been done since 15 December

I would say you might be able to get away with putting the summers on now. Although there will still be a bunch of cold days left. If they are sealed properly and you can avoid some nasty weather that's left then I'd say do it. If not then maybe it's worth it to just wait. Car looks good dude. I have the 193s and they aren't so bad.

Wait for a consistent daytime temp of over 7 degrees C.

I was figuring swapping back end of March depending on the temp. Considering I was driving around in 0.5 degrees yesterday and all the snow I had to clear off my car, my guess seems likely.

My 313's had some wax coating which set for 3 hours before they were removed. I need to find out the name of the product which was used. I've stuck with my summer set as we don't get as much snow in the midlands and most of the roads are flat and well used.

I bought new Tyres for the rear ready to ditch the winters in a couple of weeks. But...I was looking to buy a 435d in June or July only for a very nice example turn up for sale yesterday. Called BMW and bought the thing today to pick up next week. They will only take my car with Summer's on so can't even sell them on. Bugger! So I'll be on Summer's from next Wednesday, fingers crossed.

I live near Middlesbrough not that far from the OP and haven't even had to put my winters on at all this winter. Only had one morning with a bit of snow and ice all winter, still got to work ok though. I am really happy i have been able to keep my conti sport contact 2's on all year as i love the way they handle, they are very good in the wet as well.

I'm in London and though winters are on they are not needed this year - or weren't until probably now when it has got colder ! I would wait a couple of weeks at least. 313's are super looking wheels but do not put them on too early !!

Looks good, I took some similar shots of mine without a plate on whilst fitting a new one!
I'm itching to get my summers back on too! Looking forward to seeing the 313's fitted. Think i'll get mine refurbed before going back on though. |
