full interior swap help

Evening all ..been looking on the forum tonight for a tutorial on the best way to attack this but got no joy as this is going to be done Saturday hopefully ..
What I'm wanting to know really from the members that have attempted this is ....
Any hints or tips along the way
The best way to attack this ie Fronts then rears then centre consol ect
How long did it roughly take ?
Tools needed ect
And any links you stumbled across that I could find useful....

And maybe I should start a build thread at some stage as I'm pretty hooked on changing g things at the moment lol

Much appreciated

Look in the DIY Guides section of this forum. There's a guy in the USA who's changed just about every part of his interior and done several excellent step-by-step photo guides.

From memory front seats are in with Torx T50 bolts in the rails

Rears, the bottom just lifts out, the back is 2 Torx T50 bolts near the seatbelts

There are 2 clips to undo in the boot to release the seat back, from memory you have to get in the boot looking up at the parcel shelf & release these clips with a flat head screw driver

All the info is on this site somewhere

I've done a good search in the how to section and have found bits and bobs but not everything..centre consol and front seats shunt be an issue..rear seats do lift up but I'll figure out the rest I'm sure..just struggling with the door cards and rears trims with the hand overs ect
Would it be advised to disconnect the battery ?

Have a look at the BODY section, it's for the E90 however it should be roughly the same concept for the E92, hope it helps.

Before you look online for this part, here is the part number for the white clips (that easily break) that're used on most of the interior: 51437001491

Yes, your local BMW dealer should have them in stock as they fit a lot of other BMW models, not just the 3 series. I've done some interior change to my E90 (red seat belts) and I highly recommend you to get some interior plastic trim removal tools too

Screwfix and Toolstation sell cheapo trim removal tools

I have one, but I never use it, as I seem to be more successful with a screwdriver or two.

A paint scraper with a wide blade is good for levering off wood trim if you have it - put duct tape on the blade to protect the wood.

Certainly disconnect the battery - airbags can be odd things.

Not done an E9x door panel, but E60 ones are an oddball to get off and next to impossible to work out how to remove/replace with what you can see, so if you can find a guide for the door panels it may save you hours of frustration.

Definetly get a soft plastic trim removal kit, when I fitted my Alpine kit that was a life saver for removing trim and the door cards without damaging then

Thought I'd post up my progress..started off pretty bad tbh as I was supposed to collect the Interior about 1 ish for around a 2.5 hour round trip but as I was just about to leave I received a message stating I couldn't collect till 3 ...so dint get home till about 430 -5 and in the back of my mind I was thinking its a bit late in the day for a swap..with that being said I cracked on lol and finished round 8...

But I have encounter a few problems upon checking components like the seats ect but was far to late and dark to diagnose last night so will be looking today..

The Interior should be a like for like swap but the passenger front seat looks like the black module under the seat is missing
What is this module for and can I swap it onto the seat from.my old Interior. ?

And also in the yellow connector a grey plug was hanging out and looks like the prongs inside are bent and can I hell seem to sort them out so upon start up I've got a restraint system fault could that be the passenger module issue or is it that grey plug iv just mentioned on the drivers side

bit late now mate but you should have disconnected the battery & not reconnected until you were done, the dash light you have on will need diagnostic equipment to switch off iirc

As for the connections under the seat it depends what options your car has & what options the car the seats came out of had ie heated / elec memory

The negative terminal was disconnected from start to finish which leads me to the connections or the missing module as my seats have full electric and heated function and the seats I've purchased should have the same according to the seller memory. , electric heated ect

I wold take the module from your old interior & try that

Where did the new interior come from? if it was a scrap yard was the donor can in a accident as if the seatbelt socket things (I can't remember the name) have fired then they will give you a warning light as well

Swapped everything from the old Interior onto the new ..it black control module ..wiring harness ect ..and all functions work fine now ...but as you looking at the yellow connection there's 3 single plugs in that what make the connection up grey grey black the first grey connection I think is the problem as I'm struggling to line the prongs in the connector up as the was all pushed in ..so I think this is the air bag problem I'm having as it come up on my I drive restraint system faulty
