Unmarked cars

Hi Guys,

I've seen a number of unmarked cars in my area. 2 are Audi S3s with the silver mirrors. The flashing LEDs are really well hidden. 4 have been 530Ds. One was an X5. I believe they are the armed response units. One was what looked like a Ford CMax. One was a Vauxhaul Insignia VXR 4WD.

So what have you seen in your area? The 530Ds seem to be the one's to watch out for

West Midlands, you have to watch out for the 3/520d SE's and ANY old shape Ford Focus/Current Shape Astra. I got caught speeding by a 320 unmarked

They've really gone with such a variety now. Even their number plates are more standard as previously they used to always start with BX.

Brand spanking Audi A6 avant today sat on New Street in Brum.

Yes the VXR I saw in Derbyshire had a Scottish area code on it! I know they are fast cars but..!

It's not as easy as looking out for Vauxhaul Omegas anymore.

Who the hell signs off on these high value cars. It's literally a couple seconds different in 0-60 dash between a S3 and a regular A3 diesel. Makes a huge difference on a track agreed but i think the difference is negligent when chasing criminals. Waste of tax payer money if you ask me.

In chelmsford (essex) they have got 2 octavia vrs's and a brand new audi a6 that ive seen undercover.

They also have 2 new x5's and 2 x6's and untold amounts of 530d's, barely see a focus estate about now.

What gets me is they make cuts to jobs all the time but go out and spend 50+k on an x6 that has hardly any boot space and use for a police car, them 4 cars alone have probably kept 8 people out of work for a year

It all comes down to what's on offer and the price. The Audi S3 costs the same as the diesel Audi A4, so it's just variety. The S3 is a lot quicker than the diesel version, a lot lot quicker.
The price the police pay for the vehicles, is no where near what the public would pay, they have huge discounts.

We have Audi S3's, A4's, A6's, Focus ST's, 330, 530 and X5's.

We have a few nice unmarked cars in and around Warwickshire BM 320/520, R32 silver & black, X5, S3's and one or two XF's. I always thought some of the unmarked cars were donated by the manufacturer like the lotus aurora one of the forces had or they were confiscated cars that had been bought under PCP agreements with crimes using bent money as way to launder and were unable to be returned to the lease companies or sold as then it would be profit from finance from crime (a criminal offence even for the police) unlike those bought outright with bent money that are automatically crushed as they are fully crime funded so could not be used or returned to the market place.

Fair play that kind of explains it. I guessing manufactures want their cars driven by police (to show the public their durable) and will discount it enough to make the deal?

I actually thought ex police cars were not allowed to be sold to the public (think it was that top gear usa 'run out of alabama special' that confused me. But a quick google showed their available to buy & actually some pretty good deals to be had.

Here in Essex, I've noticed most unmarked cars plates start with EU or EX. mainly e90/e91s and white fords, but again with the same number plate.

There's a guy on this forum I think who bought a car that was a cop car.
I'll try to find the thread.

I have read about them converting seized cars to police cars. Don't know if they still do it.

They must have massive budgets. I'm sure the cars don't remain stock. All the mods just for the equipment is going to cost as well. They always say a great way to spot an unmarked car is from a heavily laden boot. All the gear is in there.

An unmarked Silver SEAT pulled in behind me in a layby near the Sevenoaks turning on the A21 Northbound, having tugged someone

Only knew it was the B in B by the lights flashing from the grill.

Just moved up to Warwickshire, so this information is ideal! Thanks

South Yorkshire Police had a few Evo IX's a while back. (I know because one pulled me over after going through a red light!!!) Cheshire seem to love the 530 / 535 and the X5.

Do the London Met still have the Gallardo?
