My wife wanted to do something nice for me and now I got this to solve :(

My wife decided to vacuum my car and clean the interior. I was so happy and I felt loved She used interior cleaner on the screen and now I got this. right away love turned into

It's like it ate the coating on the screen!!!

Do I have to replace the screen or is there a layer in front of the screen? Anybody with similar problem?

Other than replacing - there may be a way to remove upper film, order new film and apply it. But I've never seen actual diy, just talk. Not so uncommon your problem. I sort of did that on one car, but wasn't that severe though, never bothered since lease was up.

this is well known problem
there is no film on this screen, this is special coating
you can remove rests of the coating and then cover plastic with film
or you can reinstall screen to pre-lci idrive monitor box, it has additional plastic glass in front of the screen
you can buy new screen because 80% of the used CIC screeens will have same scratches

Its off brand interior cleaner main components were:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Narrow_range_ethoxylate
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Isothiazolinone

narrow-range ethoxylates (NRE) killed the coating i think. Or alcohol could do it also!? Other component is conservative but not a chemist

I just continued using this fine product, and almost all of it is gone now but in sunlight its terrible. I ordered anti reflex "screen protector" for ipad and Ill cut/try applying it on the screen. I must take the screen out to make it look nice I think.... The coating is really fragile....

I wonder if you got anti glare glass for a picture frame and put it in front of it. Idk if they make it in a lexan... glass should be fine there.
