A little taste of what's to come...
Got a little taste of the N55B30TO goodness this morning on a 2016 X4 M40i
As most of you know this is a slightly detuned version of the M2's poweplant. Just a quick unabusive spin but immediately apparent was: GREAT sound. Both intake and exhaust although the latter will probably be more aggressive on the M2 application. As smooth and refined as the run-of-the-mill N55 but with a swollen torque curve reminiscent of the new B58 in the 340i. No discernible increase in boost threshold or turbo lag which almost leads me to the conclusion that the turbo might be unchanged. That said, it is possible that BMW did in fact increase the turbo size slightly without adversely affecting the engine's responsiveness. All in all I came away with the impression that this motor is powerful but unstressed and therefore rife with tuning potential |

Likely it will be found on about as many cars as currently wear Valencia orange by the time things are complete. |

Yeah, I remember when Estoril first came back. A LOT of people choose their cars in that color. Needless to say, I somehow now prefer Yas Marina Blue over that, and I don't even really like YMB. I hope they don't put it on any more of the SUV's/Trucks/Wagons. That is SO not a color for those large automobiles.

I actually like X135i awd with the standard intake... The awd cars still had HPS not sure if this is still true on the current models The e series cars pulled air from above the kidneys and the f series from the sides of the kidneys... It seems like BMW is going back to the top of the kidneys along with extending the hood back to the kidneys which will make many happy as the gap is defeated |

Pretty soon they will have to make the cars wider just to fit all the badges.

Only the newer versions. The first/regular N55 has an intake running over the rear(ish) area proximate the fire wall.

That being said, seeing VO is still pretty infrequent. I'm thinking lbb X1m with the s20 4 cylinder Scott promised us ~4 years ago |

The E84 X1 M sport also came in Valencia Orange. I just picked up an M sport in black to match my 1M but I did look at a VO model I would bet that an X1M and an X2m come out in this next generation, but I like the RWD biased original model. |
