Question Which used car to buy under $40k?

I'm kicking around the idea of putting my C6Z up for sale in the Spring. Getting harder to justify all this money tied up in something that sits more than it gets driven. I work from home to boot so that leaves me with having to find an excuse to drive it.

Make no mistake, I love the car, but I don't feel I'm getting enough of a return on my money. I could also just not buy anything to replace it & I still have my daily Mazdaspeed6.

I do miss my NA Miata. The thought of getting a slightly used ND has crossed my mind. (If I do end up getting something else, it will be used. Let someone else take the hit on a new car. Also, it has to be something I can get more use out of. Hopefully, all year round. So something like a Viper is a no.)

Must be RWD or AWD & be able to turn & be fairly quick in a straight line too. I understand that nothing is going to be as fast as the Z06 (535 WHP), but I can't see myself getting into something dog slow in a straight line other than another Miata.

Maybe I should go the collectible old school muscle car route to replace it. I do plan to get a 65-67 Chevelle and do a resto mod project. I'd do it now, but budget does not allow for all the resto modding I have planned for that regardless of whether or not I sell the Z06.

What do you suggest?

My short list to test drive so far:
300 SRT8 (Late model)
ND Miata
C7 Z51
CTS-V & ATS-V
Challenger & Charger SRT8
Cayman S & 996T
M3, M2, M4, 435i, F10 M5
Chevy SS
Focus RS
2016 Camaro SS
Jag F-Type Vert
IS-F & RC-F

ND, Alfa 124 (especially if they do an Abarth), Caterham Seven 480?

Honestly, the prospect of a MazdaSpeed ND or an Abarth 124 would probably make me wait.

Again, it won't be a new car. I will buy used only.

I've got lots of recommendations, but I'd need more info first.

Is this something that needs to be more well-rounded than the Z so you can justify using it more?

Preference of NA vs FI?

Certain body style bias or need?

Are you planning on modding?

I was getting at the why do you have 2 cars and work at home, yes it's fun to have a fast car but if it's not worth it to you then maybe sell the mazdaspeed6 + c6 zo6 for a single car that can do everything for you

You haven't really explained why you aren't driving the C6Z (a problem I'd never had - I'd daily it!).

If you want something that meets those needs but a bit more practical, a 2nd Gen CTS-V (coupe or sedan) would meet your qualifications; tracks well enough, plenty of HP, meets your budget needs, etc. My plan is to replace my 335i one day with a 2nd Gen CTS-V coupe...probably 3-4 years off as my truck is on the block for replacement this spring/summer (or now if the market had what I wanted for a sane price, winter is a poor time to buy a truck).

No way a caterham under 40k. They are crazy expensive in the states. Why not a decent used z4m coupe from enthusiast auto or one of the 987s drop/hard top?

Cars under 40k that come to mind for me

C63 AMG
E92 M3 or E93
Audi S5 - under 30k
Challenger SRT
Charger SRT
E63 M6
CTS-V

Any of those are far better than anything you would get from a Chevy or a Mazda

Preferably, but not mandatory if it's considerably cheaper.

Either is fine with me.

My MS6 has 4 doors so don't really want 2 of the same car unless it's pretty bad ass. I do prefer loud colors as well.

I prefer to buy cars modded with the go fast goods already. Saves me time & lots of $$. I will, most likely, mod regardless. I can't leave anything alone.

I bought it in August & put 3k miles on it between then & December. Hardly treating it as a garage queen. Again, I work from home. I'm not out partying every night.

2nd gen V is on my short list for sure. I think it would have to be in blue, though. Hard to find a blue one.

S2000? Miata or bust for me in that segment.
Not downgrading to a C5. May as well just keep the C6Z.
Was looking at E92 M3s a while back when I was selling my 335. Not gonna do it for me after having the Z06.
BRZ, really? LOL
STI & EVO are not for me. I have a MS6 already.
Focus RS is new. Used only for me.
Z3M = no.
Z4M is a slow car, no?

Don't know anything about the 993 C2S.
My friend had an Exige. Super fun car, but they are same $ as my Z06.
F type is awesome looking, but not enough car for the $ IMO.

Other than the V, nothing in there excites me. I want a Hellcat Charger for a DD, but not in budget lol.
