2017 Porsche 718 Boxster/S

Looking instantly recognizable, the model has a more masculine front fascia which features larger air intakes and new bi-xenon headlights with integrated LED daytime running lights. Moving further back, we can see revised side skirts, larger side air intakes, and new door handles. Other highlights include three-dimensional LED taillights and a new accent strip with Porsche lettering.

The interior largely carries over but the model has been equipped with a new dashboard that has circular air vents. Drivers will also find a new steering wheel and an updated Porsche Communication Management system.

The entry-level 718 Boxster is powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter flat four engine that produces 300 horsepower and 280 pound-feet of torque. Despite having significantly less displacement than the previous 2.7-liter flat six, the four-cylinder engine produces 35 hp and 74 lb-ft more than its predecessor.

Buyers looking for something more powerful can order the 718 Boxster S which features a turbocharged 2.5-liter flat four engine with 350 hp and 309 lb-ft of torque. This is an increase of 35 hp and 43 lb-ft of torque.

When equipped with the PDK transmission and the Sport Chrono Package, the 718 Boxster can accelerate from 0-60 miles per hour in 4.5 seconds before hitting a top speed of 170 mph. The 718 Boxster S completes the same task in 4.0 seconds before topping out at 177 mph.

Despite being significantly faster and more powerful, the new Boxster models are more fuel efficient as fuel consumption has been reduced by up to 13 percent.

The Porsche 718 Boxster is already available to order and U.S. pricing starts at $56,000 and tops out at $68,400 for the 718 Boxster S. Deliveries are slated for late June which makes the model a perfect summertime companion.

Car is absolutely stunning. I love the new front and rear, both more aggressive and attractive. The new engines are amazing, so much more torque so you can actually feel the speed in everyday driving. Improved chassis and steering for even better driving dynamics in one of the most dynamic cars that exist.

I am amazed... I would choose this over a 911 any day, or of course any BMW. It's just absolutely gorgeous and finally with the power to deliver an even more amazing driving experience.

Most amazingly, a well equipped base Boxster is about the same price as a M3... while IMO base 718 Boxster >>> F80/2... It's not even close to me. Value to price ratio through the roof.

If I were in the market for a sports car, this would be it.

Overall looks are good. Engine performance should be much improved. However not too sure about that "Porsche" name on the rear and the "718 Boxster S" just seems too busy.

I'm glad the 2.0 isn't making the 260 hp originally reported
300hp even from a turbo 4 has got to be fun

Nice but would have to see in person. I've always, liked boxsters.....but compared to my current M4 - no contest. Mine wins hands down

Is there a 718 Cayman write-up you can post? If the Boxter starts at 56k, the Cayman should be around 54k.

Normally the Cayman releases about a year after the Boxster if I remember correctly

The new base Boxster could become quite a value prospect. 300hp in standard trim, and you with FI, you know it'll pick up power easily with tuning.

Yeah, pity they just don't have any history with boxer fours...

Love that they finally killed that stupid rear flap that rose at speed. This looks so much better.

I like it. Rear is so much better.

Let's see one in silver, like it should be, and not Old Spice red.

I'm sensing sarcasm?

I guess people have never heard of the Porsche 912, 914, 550, or the 356... lol
Not to mention all the other I4 cars they made: 924, 944, 968

I think the car looks really good! What I don't get, is Porsche leaving the Boxter nomenclature on the car? I thought that was the whole point of bringing back the 718 designation? I am not a Porsche purist so the flat4 doesn't bother me one bit. As long as it's reliable.

The Caymans have always been a few hundred dollars more than the Boxters. Opposite of most convertible/fixed roof pricing with other companies.

I think they're just trying to cover the back in badging. Just as you can dump the Carrera badge for a 911 one, I assume this is going to be similar on the 718.

They are going to "fix" that issue. Cayman is going to be cheaper than the drop top.

This car is only going to take "the only game in town" when it comes to roadsters even further away from reach for anyone trying to compete.
Even the base boxster at 300 hp and under 3000 lbs is going to be a rocket with the handling you know only Porsche has.
The Cayman will be astonishing as well and then don't forget the GTS mode and future GT4.

I know it's not their business model, but that car with a starting MSRP of under $50k would put me in the serious buyer category. With the price of Porsche options, one that starts at $56k will be $70k out the door if you want doors and wheels on it. That's a lot of scratch for a 4-banger convertible.
