First week with my f31 330d MSport LCI

After ordering my car in late September it finally came through and I picked it up a week ago having part-ex'd my 2013 f31 320d MSport 8AT

Spec is
f31 330d MSport
Mineral grey/black Dakota
Active Safety Pack
Pro-nav
Visibility pack with adaptive LED
HK sound
Panoramic sunroof
Ash grain with pearl chrome inlay
Comfort pack
Heated seats

I've uploaded a few pics and here are a few early impressions. Don't flame me for the wheels - they are 17 inch with winter tyres.

Engine
Obviously early days but it is a huge step up from the 2.0d. That was a good engine but the 3.0d feels like it is going to be a great one.

Adaptive LED
I know there have been threads comparing the LEDs with xenons. My comparison is with halogens from the previous one and so the LEDs are massively brighter. Hard to know whether the extra is worth it for the adaptive, but when they do their thing (including on the motorway) it is like magic and they inspire a lot of confidence.

Ride comfort and steering
Can't say too much about pre and post LCI suspension changes as I deleted the MSport suspension on my previous 320d. The 330d feels firmer but also very composed. At parking speeds the steering is noticeably lighter than the 320d but it firms up very nicely on the move.

Active safety pack
I do a fair bit of late evening driving so thought it a good idea to spec this pack. It's a slightly odd sensation having the seat belts tension around you and as you drive off but the blind spot warning and lane departure both work well and are not annoying.

Interior
I went with ash grain with metal inlay having had aluminium hexagon and gloss black before (thought I would be appealing to my inner 'Rover' old man tendencies), but I think it works well with the additional chrome bits on the LCI and looks quite contemporary. What do you think?
I've speccd a pano roof this time and it really lifts what would otherwise be a completely black interior. I've also added HK sound - haven't played with it much but its certainly loud and hugely better than the standard set-up I had before. Also the ambient lighting is much better on the LCI both in the doors and the new bit around the radio and ac unit. Also the mapping on the pro-nav is much clearer than before and the system boots up more quickly. I know the on-air map updates is working as it did it twice within the first day!

All was going well until this Friday when a white van ran into the back of me. It was a heck of a bang and the screw fastening the number plate to the van put a small hole in my bumper and its also deformed it a bit. So it's going off to the repair centre for a new bumper.

So apart from that hiccup (!) I'm really pleased after 500 miles. As others have said and I can certainly vouch, the 320d is a very good car but if you can make the numbers work then the 330d feels much more special.

Cheers

Sorry about the pics. Don't know what happened between laptop and iPad. Anyway, this won't be the first black Dakota interior you've seen!

Fair enough, that's computers for you. I'm sure you'll love your 330d, I certainly do. I test drove both the 320d and the 330d. Heart won over head and with my colour choice I still smile every time I drive it!

Why don't the lights say BMW Icon Adaptive LED like they do in the promo pictures?

This makes it sound like they are the same as the ones in the 1 Series that don't do the split beam.

Garage List
Nice looking car, I really like your color combo, the ash wood works really well with the gloss black around the AC controls.

Wish we could get the 330 here in NA.

Enjoy!

Good to hear you like it. I like my hearse too! 7 months in and I still look forward to driving it every day. As the engine loosens off, it is even more enjoyable!

There are a few threads on here to show the best settings for the HK system. I just changed mine recently and it does improve the sound quality. Recommend you do this too as well as find out how to attach pictures correctly!

Enjoy it!

Loving the chrome strip, like you say works with the LCI changes - I'd seriously consider that as option next time (and I'm bored of the estoril stripe now)

How "woody" is the ash grain. Dumb question I know, but is it close to gloss black but with texture?

The ash grain is pretty dark - obviously not quite like piano black - but I think it lifts the otherwise black interior

They do say BMW Adaptive LED. Sorry about the upside-down pics but if you look just to the side of where the indicator is you'll see the lettering

Very nice indeed and a few similarities to mine. I really like the ash grain trim but be careful when cleaning it - even my lint free MF towels leave very faint scratching no matter how careful I am!

I'm also very satisfied with my 3.0! Especially good coming from a 2.0d tractor!
