Red face Is this fixable? Detailer or bodyshop work? Buff or respray? SO MANY QUESTIONS

Hi all! 1st post

Longtime lurker, first time (potential) buyer. I'm super pumped. It's a space grey 328xi e92. Great shape; female driven to NYC (those highway miles amirite :thumbs and everything seems to check out. Going to be doing a PPI @ BMW dealer since there are no indies near her, but she mentioned that this happened recently. She backed up into the garage door, and lowered the price because she said it'll be about $1000 to fix. Can any chip in with their opinion? I'd still like to buy the car regardless, and worry about fixing this in a month or so. Thanks!!

Take it to a body shop and request a quote. If >$1k obviously no deal or haggle lower, but also consider whether autobody shop can remove 100% of the scratch. I've been told BMW clearcoats / paints are soft; also consider downstream negative impact to resell value.

Well it looks like there's a dent. The scratches are 50/50 if they'll come out. You can drastically reduce them and on silver probably make them 95% gone. Gotta know what you're doing and have the right compounds. BMW buff really good. The dent WILL NOT buff out. Lol. Fixing and respraying door with color blend to 1/4 panel will likely be more than $1k. Take a little lacquer thinner on a rag and see how much scratch comes off. Might be a big surprise and it will show how bad it really is. Good luck.

Depends on how bad the actual dent is and how deep the scratches are. I had something similar on my car and it required a whole replacement of the outer door shell about $1500+ to repair it. I would ask her to get a repair quote from a body shop or just assume the risk of possibly having to pay more then $1000 and negotiate the price down.

Looks like it need panel beating and a full respray, does it effect more than the door panel?

I would get some high res photos or take it to a shop for a quote.

It will need a respray, can buff out scratches down to the paint.
