Question about oil
Well the thing is i had my oil changed at 5000km, just to be sure.
I went to a shop an bought castrol 0w30 oil because this is what bmw uses. Then i went to a bmw service place they changed the oil and everything is fine. But the oil i bought was castrol 0w30 longlife2 volkswagen special approval, and it does not meet the standards bmw set for their oils. I asked about this in the shop were i bought the oil and they said there is no diffrence between slx for vw and slx for bmw. So what should i do? The oil i basically the same slx both 0w30 just that the other one has vw special approval which i put in my car.

Castrol SLX 0W30 is approved
Manufacturers often have oil companies make containers that have their name on it so customers think they can only buy the correct oil from them. So in my opinion your oil is fine

Where did you buy your oil? I have tried to find the SLX 0W-30 in Helsinki area but the only place where it is available is the dealership. Edge Sport 0W-40 is available everywhere but Castrol recommends the SLX oil for new engines. |

We did a comparison last year and found only 1 or 2 places kept the proper LL01 spec TXT 5W-30 an they were much more expensive than BMW. A lot of places had another TXT that was something like 15W-30, but this is NOT the correct oil The SLX 0W-30 LL04 is also correct What did you get ?

If you want more confidence to this send an e-mail to Castrol's customer service. You can find the address at www.castrol.fi. They reply quite promptly.

Now I had to clear this out myself because there are different Castrol SLX 0W-30 oils in shops. I found at least LL-01, LL-04, VW longlife and Volvo longlife. I asked from Castrol Finland if the oils are different or are they same oil just in different bottles. The answer is that they are different oils. They all are SLX 0W-30 but there are different additives in the oil. So the answer for the first question is that you really should change your oil to correct one.
