Oil changes
Hi,
a simple question to anyone who does their own oil changes. Do you have a special tool to remove the oil filter cap or can it be unlocked and put back by hand? Oh also, do you tighten the oil nut by hand or actually torque it to spec? The gap to get a torque wrench in there looks pretty small. Thanks

On the derv you cant undo it by hand, it requires a large socket. Seems the older petrols were the same, but they've changed it on newer ones.

Cheaper non-oem ones also available:

You can remove the cap with a strap wrench. Mark the position of the cap before removal, then you can tighten it up to the mark without the use of a torque wrench.

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/like/14136...s=true&ff13=80 Pricing things up though that 'national' oil change option looks good. £61 for the oil change and the filter and the labor. Plus you always seem to be able to get 10% off with their vouchers.

Be carueful with National tyres doing your engine oil service, they have been known not to even change the oil. This was proven on another forum I used to be on.

I've seen similar reports of other companies pulling the same trick in the US. I was hoping I'd be sat near by to observe. Cowboys everywhere. If you want a job done right I suppose...
