Paddle shift
Hi I own a 57 plate 325i m sport auto saloon with paddles
Just a quick question about the paddles,is it right that either paddle can be used to change up & down the gears? Only reason I ask is that I used to own a 61plate M3 comp coupe and one paddle changed up & the other changed down, though my 325i would've had the same shift movement. Thanks for any answers, all the best x |

Yes, you can change up & down with either paddles, unlike the M3, you can swap to use the M3 paddles though, plug & play

There are three types of paddle fitted to the E9x
Pre 2010-ish cars have the solid silver ears that you can change up or down on either side. Post 2010 cars have up on one side and down on the other. These are NOT interchangeable without some modifications to the wiring, as they operate in completely different ways. I understand the M3 ones will work OK with the pre-2010 cars, but I have no first hand experience of this. If you have the up/down paddles, it will be relatively simple to swop wires in the steering wheel to give you individual up/down changes. Most people prefer the looks of the later or M3 type paddles. Having had early and late cars, I prefer the up/down functionality of the early paddles - when you have large amounts of lock on, you don't have to think which paddle to pull/push. Obviously, from a track perspective, this wouldn't happen, as you'd be in the right gear before giving it armfuls of lock, but I don't do track stuff, and I'm not that good a driver! Mike |
