New X1
Test drove an xLine 20d auto today. Liked it much more than I thought I would! Much better looking in flesh than previous model, and the practicality aspect shits all over the 3 series. Loads more rear leg and cabin room.

Huge improvement in comparison to the old model, exterior and interior

Where did you test drive, and did you talk figures with them? Also, what's the interior fit and trim quality like....pictures in the media don't really reflect how the car "feels" in terms of build quality.

Had it for about 2 hours on my own. Combo of town, A road and motorway driving. Going to get it for 24 hours at some point.
Figures not discussed yet. The interior quality is good. Much better than old X1 and I'd say a small notch above my F30. E.g. The leather dash trim around the gear stick helps lift the cabin. The much maligned gearstick looks odd in isolation and old fashioned compared to the know in the F30 but it falls right to hand when you're in cabin so it makes sense. The 2 litre diesel suits car well. Punchy enough and although there's a bit of roll in fast corners, it's acceptable considering bodystyle. Auto tailgate good. Dislikes? The standard seats - not as comfy as the sports seats. Tyre noise is a bit worse than F30 but X1 was on 19 inch Bridgestone RFTs vs my 19 inch Goodyear RFTs for comparison. |

Could you say how the boot space compares with an F31?
I've just got another German Shepherd and although the F31 is big enough for now, when the second one is fully grown I think I might need a bigger boot. |

The new X1 was on my short list but the costs were similar to a new 335d to purchase outright. Also C2C has recently reduced their discounts on this model. Expect they will sell well, similar to latest X3.
How was the auto compared to the 335d. I read they use an Aisin 8 speed auto, rather than ZF. |

Boot is quite shallow with the false floor in place, much deeper once folded back but I'd order a spare wheel and that would eliminate the space. More of a problem for a dog owner might be the lack of a tonneau cover - it's a parcel shelf in the new X1.
Couple more random observations. There's a sync button on climate control! Also went up in whole degrees , not 0.5 degrees. The gearbox seemed well suited to the car and the engine. Smooth, not hesitant and seemed to be in right gear at right time. The xLine is the better looking version in my opinion, only annoyance would be the steering wheel. It feels a bit cheap compared to the M sport steering wheel. |

The newer X designs are becoming instantly likeable where as they were always growers in the past!
If I needed to waste endless amounts of money on road fund licence I might consider a soft roader like this or have they become kinder on the wallet now too? Good car for the Mrs once used values are down in a few years

I am seriously considering one for next steed, especially if there is a 300bhp M lite version that is rumoured! (of course cost will be a factor lol)

I saw it today at my dealers too. On the list for my wife's next car and it ticks a lot of boxes. As previously stated, really impressive inside and looks good also although it's a bit nostrily in my opinion and the F31 still looks much nicer.
What I was really surprised at, however, is the price of them. Even an entry level 18d awd is over £30k. Shows you just how good value the 3 series I especially with all the discounts. We will probably wait and see what the new VW Tiguan looks like.

went to an events evening at our local showroom and very impressed with the XLine version and might replace our Freelander with an X1 next year, shall test drive one in a few months, expect to go for the 2.0i but thinking about the electric/petrol version when released, but don't know enough about it yet
