steering wheel trim repair
Did this over the last couple of days. Anyone needing to repair their peeling trim, plastikote matt black gives a great oem colour.
This was done by sanding the remaining original rubberized coating off using scotchbrite, then flatting off using 800 grit. Alcohol wipes to clean up. 2 coats of plastikote plastic primer (goes on clear). Alcohol wiped again. No sanding before topcoat. 4 light coats of plastikote matt black. Came out supersmooth and like new.

I did mine in satin black a few weeks ago, the old rubberised coating is a swine to rub off, looks so much better though

Looks good.
I need to do the wife's X5 - as they are all renowned for the steering wheel trim peeling. The only thing stopping me is that unlike other BMWs, the buttons can't be removed, which I think will be a massive ballache if I'm trying to respray with anything. |
