Brake Choices, Help me choose? :)

EBC yellow stuff pads and EBC 3GD

http://ebcbrakes.com/product/3gd-sport-rotors/

or

StopTech Discs and Pads

http://www.vr-speed.com/performance/...brake-kit.html

Both OE Fitment. Budgetted about 5-600£ for braided hoses, Discs, Pads and Fluid, all round.

Where's the cheapest place I can find the EBC equivalent?

Any help or advice would be very much appreciated!

Umut

Get Akebono pads and Nitrac discs (Gaza01 has them)... about £650 for discs and pads but then counter more for fluid and sensors.

That's what I'm about to do.

Bit over my budget unfortunately. Do you think I can split the purchase in half, first do fronts then rears?

I think Akebono's are hard to get a hold of nowdays, my friend has them on his 335d with MTec discs, they were cheap, but seem to be performing very well.

Thanks dude!

I bought my Akebonos for about £120 all in for 4 pads from ebay US so cannot complain. If you're doing brakes and most of it is near end of life may as well do the lot!

Dont bother with fancy disks, they dont do anything bar cost more.

Buy decent quality standard disks and spend the money on pads/hoses etc.

True but I like the aesthetics of the Stoptech grooved and drilled disc and also the EBC 3GD Turbo Groove disc!

My friend has these but on a coupe, I'm a bit worried about going with sucha cheap disc as I have a slightly heavier E93 335i so I want best of both worlds performance and looks, hence why I wanted to go with EBC or StopTech.

Saying that my friend does drive his hard and hasn't had any issues with the Mtec discs as of yet but just trying to gauge some thoughts and ideas here. Like I said the real hold back for me is the budget. I know I should go expensive on something so important but I cant fork out much over 500 to 600 at an absolute push.

I was thinking to split the cost to buying Front discs + Pads and Wear leads.

Then buying Rear discs + Pads + handbrake shoes + wear leads and finally changing brake fluid and going to braided hoses.

I've recently purchased the front Akebono pads from ebay for £42:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2915162138...ht_1130wt_1206

and the Zimmermann drilled discs from ebay for £145

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1214107616...T#ht_636wt_817

Have to say I'm very impressed with these items especially the pads which produce very little brake dust so would definitely recommend them.

As my rears are now almost done I have just ordered the rear Akebono pads, again from the same seller on ebay for £32

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2914724429...ht_1130wt_1206

and the rear Zimmermann drilled discs for £72

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3315334107...ht_1416wt_1054

Worth a look I'd say

Looks good! Wasn't sure about Zimmermann, but what are they like, will they be able to handle the power and weight of a convertible 335i? I've also modded my car quite a bit (Vargas stage 2 turbos and all the side trimmings)

Umut - Manish has answered both yours and my question. I need to buy some discs and I'm considering either OEM pagid or Black Diamond Drilled or Zimmerman based on makkan00 recommendation as well as Manish who is running them.

I managed to get an amazing price from a friend for ebc 3GD discs all round, yellow stuff pads all round, wear sensors, goodridge steel lines and motel 5.1 fluid £600

I also managed to get a price from VRSF for Stoptech discs all round, pads all round, steel lines and motul dot 4 fluid for £570

Not bad prices but still the Zimmermann discs and Akebono pads all round are still a lot cheaper.

Also I had the yellow stuff pads on before I put the Akebono on and I have to say they produced a lot of brake dust so I don't think I would use those again.

Would I be able to get the uprated lines and fluid too?

I have a brake fluid service due at bmw, just to keep service history up Id like them to do the fluid change, would i be able to ask for dot 4 or other performance fluid?

If they both include shipping etc, then go for the stoptechs. VRSF are in the US though, so make sure your taking VAT and duty into account which will add about 23% to any items you import.

Standard BMW fluid will be fine TBH.

However if your fitting braided lines you'll need to give them to BMW to fit.

Otherwise you'll end up doing the fluid change twice in effect.

I ordered my VRSF FMIC CP DP AND BOV from them. That price includes everything down to delivery tax and so forth.
