Sticking Rear Caliper E92 335D

I have a sticky rear caliper on my E92 335D.

I took the calipers off this evening to see what was going on.

So far I have completed the following:

- Replaced worn pads with new pads.
- Cleaned up discs
- Cleaned and greased sliding pins.
- General clean around the brake area.

With the caliper removed, the disc moved freely so it isn't the handbrake mechanism in the drum holding the wheel back. The sliding pins are all moving freely and the piston slide back in with ease.

When all reassembled the wheel is a little more free but it is still very tight. I noticed if you gave the caliper a slight knock it free'd up and allowed the wheel to spin freely again until the brake was applied.

Any idea's what could be causing this?

Thanks in advance.

Probably the piston is sticking?

What's the best way of checking? The piston wound back in easily if it makes any difference

Well its the only thing it can be really?

Theres a piston, and the sliders. The sliders you've checked and greased. the piston is all thats left.

Dismantle the caliper and take the piston out and you'll probably find its corroded. If your lucky it might clean up with some scotchbrite and you can reassemble with new seals.

Just rebuilt the rears on my 330d lci. Quite straightforward but helps if you have a compressor to pop the piston out, I used part of an old bike inner tube to seal the air gun in place. My rear nearside was sticking and had worn the pads down big time. After researching the consensus was just do both rears as the other one will probably be on the way out soon too (my other one did have a bad seal but want sticking). Wet and dry paper on old piston and slider pins sorted any corrosion and the seal kit with grease/slider seals etc was about £25 delivered. I thought this was quite expensive considering what it is but much cheaper than new callipers. I took the time and changed rear pads/rotors and shoes also.
