e91 330d m sport lci - winter wheels??
Hi all, I'm looking to get a set of winter wheels / tyres but keep hearing of problems due to bigger brakes. currently standard with 18" mv3's staggered but hoping to use 17" for winters as tyres cheaper and happy to lose the staggered set up. was thinking of style 158 wheels (8j all round) does anybody know if they will fit or of any other suitable OEM wheels that do? I assume spacers would be good idea on the rears if the 158's work to avoid wheels sitting too far inside arch. any advise would be great as can't seem to find definitive answers anywhere.

i have the same car and 17" winters will fit no problems. Its actually the recommended size from BMW not 18" as you are meant to leave extra room between the arches for the build up of snow.

many thanks, I can't decide between 158 and 194m style at moment I'm just worried about rear offset difference if going 8j all round with 158's but suppose 10mm spacers on rear would sort that out.

I'm also after a set of 194, I have seen a few staggered sets on ebay going for between £200 to £300 but I would prefer a square set up as the choice of tyres for 255/40/17 is limited.

my brother runs staggered 17" winters on his E90 (style 286). He just fitted 225/45R17 all round. Small amount of stretch on the rears, not a big deal though.

I think 225/45/17 all round is best bet for winters and even with the staggered wheels you can get away with it. my plan is to get some staggered 194m's and use square tyre set up. keep hearing we're in for a bad winter so better safe than sorry............

Yeh, I've run winters for the last few years, wouldnt be without them now.
I kept the 225/45r17's off my old car and bought some steels for the 330d. They'll be going on probably next month. |

I run a square set up on my E91 and a staggered set up on the E93 in the winter. They really do make a difference if it is icy and snow is around. In the wet they are supposed to offer better grip and braking distances are reduced but I haven't had the need for an emergency stop with them on yet though!

some/most 330d's have 330mm front brakes whereas the 335i/d all have 345mm front brakes.
That said, most/all? BMW E90 17" wheels will fit over the 345mm brakes. BMW Sold the 335d SE's with 17" wheels from new. |

As said previously I have exactly the same car and run 17" winter wheels (194) even though they are a staggered set I have 225 Goodyear winter tyres on all four corners with no issues. They are excellent and look good to.

the 194 are my preference but looking at around £250 used on eBay plus the tyres so trying to convince the wife I "need" them at moment! . Have you got run flat winters? Seems cheaper to ditch the RF's but then I've got to get a spare.....

Can of tyre foam, a compressor and an AA card.
Better than runflats anyway, if you get a puncture you can pump it back up instead of ruining the runflat. If it doesnt want to blow back up, you can tyre foam it, and if all else fails you call the AA and get them to fit a new tyre :P |

Current summers on mint mv3's are at about 4mm so considering some all seasons on the new 17" wheels and running them all year. tyres are cheaper and as 90% of driving is motorway I imagine I'll get smoother ride from non Rf 17" than current RF 18's. Any recommendations for all season tyres greatly appreciated
