If you mess it, you will be looking to pay north of £600 and two new keys. And recovery fees to your dealer!
Bit surprise to me that people come here and ask for diy for the module which can leave you stranded on your driveway.

If you have no background of coding, would you touch cas straight away and plan flashing it?

Depends if the CAS is the first thing thats broken or not i guess?
When i bought my old car (an Audi), one of the first things i had to do to it was get two new keys and reprogram the immo. The car only came with one key, in a broken shell, and i broke the transponder in half trying to reshell the key. Faced with the option of a huge bill from Audi to do the work, i got stuck in and did it myself, buying the appropriate lead/software and getting two used keys, new transponders and the blades sorted for a fraction of the cost of one new key from the dealer. I've not done much coding on the BMW platform yet, and i dont personally know the ins and outs of reflashing the CAS. Yet i reflashed the DME on my brothers 320d to a program from a different car (Alpina D3) by following information helpfully left by other forum users, and TBH it was a pretty simple job. My point is simply that instead of shooting the guy down, your much better off giving a constructive post highlighting the risks, what can be done to avoid them, and perhaps point them at suitable info in the coding forum or wherever, or even suggest they have a search. |

I have used software and cable to flash the ecu on bmw edc16 and edc15 vw cars, I have never flashed and module and only as I have a issue with it I'm looking into it
From shops here I've been told you can't just update the cas module and you have to do every module in the car, is that right ? |

Have a look in the coding forum. I note you've already posted in a thread in there.
That thread suggests that folk are updating just the CAS and it works fine. Most of the info you need is out there, you just have to do a lot of digging to find it. |

Try to recode CAS first, using ncsexpert then consider updating using winkfp if it's still a problem. Remember to have a power supply connected when updating CAS

as said on the forum you need to update the cas module without key in ignition you really should do a search before you post though as there is tons of info and even dedicated threads telling you how to do the CAS but ill leave that down to you to dig it out im not coding expert btw |
