Welp, looks like I gotta get a new DEF tank. Still under factory warranty and hitting up dealer soon. Is there still a wait on tanks? Hope nothing else comes up.
2011, 36k miles...

I'm still waiting since June. Supposedly tanks keep getting delayed at the manufacturer in Germany. This is the third (I think) thread related to this issue...

So as long as they see the code and approve the work, I'm good to go? My factory warranty runs out in November so I want to avoid paying the CPO fee if I don't have to. Also have you been driving with the SES on this whole time? Any issues?

I'm not sure about your warranty questions, I'm sure other board members know.
As for your other question: yes, I have been driving since June with the CEL on. No issues i've noticed, but I was warned you that if your low DEF warning system comes on you won't be able to start your car in 1000 miles. Haven't seen it yet, but i imagine you can just fill up the tank with more DEF to keep it going. This seems to be a "sensor" problem and not anything that keeps the system from "working". Thankfully I'm under warranty until Dec 16...hopefully they will have a part by then. |

I'm kinda upset about the whole driving around with the SES light on while under warranty. For the Ultimate Driving Machine, it seems embarrassing.
I'm going in tomorrow morning for my appointment, will post update with verdict. Maybe I can convince them to do a CBU clean somehow in my frustration.

Hah good luck trying to sell the CBU cleaning. If it is really that embarassing you can always just clear the codes with torque its a tiny bit of hassle but doesnt really take that much time. Imo this is still a decent manifestation of the "ultimate driving machine" a little light on the dash doesnt bother me much. It still GOES

Haha, yeah I have been clearing it, but it comes right back on each start. We'll see what happens next.

So, a quick follow up. I was informed that December would be a possible arrival of the tank. For now... SES lyfe.

It's kinda 50/50 right now. The car is only 3 months old to me.

I'm at 106,000 miles, and my mechanic advised me that my 335d has twice as many miles as any other BMW diesel customer that they have. All the other diesel owners are watching to see what issues I end up having. At least I've never had carbon buildup because of my religious use of fuel additive. So if I add up the $2200 urea tank I still need, $800 fuel pump that died last week, and $1000 of other front end bushing and brake work that needs to be done... I will probably end up selling the 335d when my Porsche Spyder arrives at the end of November. I already sold my M3. If I do sell the 335d, I will miss it. I have loved the 335d more than any other car I've had previously. |

The thing that makes me the most mad about this situation isn't the cost of repairs, although that does suck.
It's the fact that these urea tanks have been backordered for months and BMW is effectively blocking me from being able to repair my car and blocking me from being able to sell it at a fair price without being financially screwed. If BMW is going to behave like this now, then maybe I should vote with my feet and switch brands entirely. |

What would you do ? Start singing the alphabet?
It's only because I'm under warranty that I stick this out. If I was out (including CPO) I would chop that shit out and make it right, with full turbo-back. In the mean time, I guess I need to stick it out. I did talk to BMWNA and they had some hopeful things to say. I need to work with my service center to see if I can get an extended loaner, on their dime. Furthermore, if I understood correct, if they have my car for more than 30 days, they may pay or defer my finance charges since I'm with BMW Finance. I'm interested to see more about that, but they instructed me to work with the dealer first, then follow up with their response. The up side; I'm without my car, so I don't pay for it. The down side; I'm without my car... I check it weekly with carly to see if any additional codes come up. That's my biggest worry, that I may miss something.

Follow up! I got my tank replaced! No more light, and everything looks to be working as normal. I'm heading back in to get my vacuum lines replaced under warranty as they are dry rotted around the turbo.
