It's much more complicated as it necessitates removing the ECU from the car & is, as a consequence, considerably more expensive, I'm afraid that is as much as I know.

Correct. This pushes the price to between £400-£500. I don't mind paying that rather than using a tuning box. I have also been looking at the PPK, prices have come down but its still about £800 before fitting.

Just my 2p's worth, having found out that it was a ECU removal jobby, I decided to go down the tuning box route.
Got a RaceChip Pro2 direct from Germany for £180 and its excellent. Provided a good improvement over standard with no loss in mpg. Best thing is that it is removable in literally 2 minutes, so if I sell the car or anything its straight onto fleabay.
