Anyone Else Remapping Autoboxes?

I've been reading up on the gearbox remap, and it sounds like its 100% what I want. Is there anyone else offering these apart from JR Tuning and JF Automotive?

Just in the shopping around stage at the minute. Its £400+ and I'm struggling to justify that to myself. So I was wondering if someone more local did it, and I could get it done at the same time as a full remap, with DPF & EGR removal etc.

I mentioned the company on another thread. There in wolverhampton somewhere and think there called midland remaps. Price was around 250 i think or less although they dont recommend mapping the boxes they still do em

Ah sounds good. I'll look into it. Thats a bit closer than Kent! I'm going to get the autobox fluid changed next month so the box should be in tip top condition.

Jim take a look at si335ds thread. I'm not convinced about the auto remap. Seems people have had very mixed results - I would proceed with caution if I were you. 400 quid isn't small change to me mate :-(

Have a look on the diesel sub forum for experiences on this. They're not positive.

I think DMS do advertise gearbox remapping! therefore might be worth looking at their site(mind you it won't be cheap if they're doing it)

Some other remapping company's have been looking into doing the gearbox remapping, but as I understand it to a degree theres a fair bit of caution attached to rolling the product out to market, the mere fact that you don't see BMW auto boxes advertised for remapping kind of tells you all you need to know, VW DSG gearboxes for instance have been fairly well received and I've driven a couple thst have been remapped and it makes a real difference and many company's offer the service, but these are totally different and shouldn't be compared IMO.

I'd be interested to see one standalone set up for the 6speed auto and how it stands up to scrutiny

I'd just be happy if you could stop the box automatically downshifting in "manual" mode.

I had my gearbox oil changed at VMTP in Cannock, a few weeks ago and got talking to the tech about this, amongst other things.

He strongly advised against it.

Even if he HAD recommended it; £400 is a LOT for just a gearbox tune with sketchy results.

Interesting! Did the fluid change alter the torque converter lockup? Or is it peace of mind and not a lot of other noticable effects?
Did the tech go into any other detail? Or was it just because it was 3rd party software, and not a commonly done thing?
Playing devil's advocate: I can imagine in the past, people advising against the simple plug in remaps on lower powered diesel cars that everyone has widely accepted now... Perhaps this is the same?

I'm confused OP, are you asking if it's safe to remap an auto gearbox? If so, I've had my 335D remapped from BW Chiptune for just shy of 1 year and have had no problems so far touchwood. The thing just keeps pulling and pulling. No other exhaust or engine mod carried and DPF still in place.

No no, I'm referring to remapping the actual autobox software for quicker torque converter lockup (really want this) and faster shifts (not bothered), carried out by the likes of JF Tuning, JR Automotive, and DMS.

Gotcha! Yeah I've read it's worth doing but then it's all down to your personal budget :-)

its a big risk and I wouldn't advise doing it

I have spent time with the people doing these and had a good chat and they can make a lot of money if they offered it but the fact they don't advertise it and only do it on request is a sign not to do it!

I wouldn't risk my box for a quicker shift

To me I think this would increase enjoyment more than a remap...
