Bit of Advice...jb4

Just after a bit of advice about getting a jb4 for my 335i.

I'm guessing that it puts extra strain on the turbos by turning up the boost, is this going to be a problem seeing as I am still on my original turbos (got BMW to check for me, unless they have been changed by an Indy, approved used car)

The car is on 63k now, I have the insured BMW warranty but I'm guessing they will have a way of checking for increased levels of boost.

What are your views? Has anyone had any problems with turbos going because of a jb4/remap?

I've been hoping that mine would start rattling and then I could get BMW to change them, at which point I would be ordering a jb4 while its in the workshop.

I've been getting a bit bored with my car lately, so I want to get a jb4 and alpina flash, which should transform the car.

Any advice would be appreciated.

It depends on your dealer as when my turbos were replaced by the dealer for wastegate rattle mine had the updated intercooler, chargepipe, forge DVs, JB4 (although I had turned it off prior to taking it in), catted DPs and Akrapovic DP back system. Plus a few other more like suspension etc etc. so you could tell it was nowhere near standard.

But I've been using my dealer for more years than I can remember and I've had warranty work down on past motors too which have all been modded.

As they've checked the turbos and are happy with them then as long as you turn off the JB4 then the ECU will be as per standard (unless they open it up of course).

How much boost you run and how much strain you put on the turbos is completely up to you with a JB4 mate.

It's a great tool. Make sure you get a flash tool so that you can better run settings in the car's DME. MHD is something like £70 and runs on Android devices.
You can better control how the car runs fueling, engine timing and boost.

You could in fact use just MHD flasher to raise boost.

The turbos will be fine. The boost levels are not that high anyway. The biggest problem for the N54 turbos is wastegate rattle which is completely unrelated to JB4. And once you get it, it will drive you insane.

Unless you run really high levels of boost, they can't detect the JB4. Even then anyone with INPA and a laptop can clear all the shadow codes that are stored as if they were never there.

I have a bit of rattle on my turbos but I bet it's the normal level. Had the car since 25k miles, now 45k miles on the clock. Only had down pipes for a year and meth for 6 mths.
The JB4 is the best mod I've done. With all the changes I make a remap wouldn't be viable but these new flasher tools can do all the JB4 does and more. I need the JB4 for meth flow control though and the jb4 mobile app is just a delight! I control my jb4 with and do logging to my tablet. MHD flasher can log on your phone\tablet as well though. I use MHD flasher for the back end flashes.

Fitted mine at 103k

Have since had to change something to do with fuel I think, there was a thread oldgreysteve posted and have all the vac hoses replaced, other than that it's been fine so far. Massive difference over a standard car.

For the ultimate power i would buy my parts for sale. Ets intercooler, Vsrs downpipe, install cobb MHD , combine it with your jb4 and a good intake. you should see near 500 crank!

did you change spark plugs / walnut blast before putting it on?

Ive got a JB4 that I will putting on soon mines at 95k with the turbos replaced at 90k. There is still a slight rattle that I may go back to BMW about.
Just worried that at the sort of mileage certain issues may arise.

Could expose potentially weak parts like high pressure fuel pump, low pressure fuel pump, boost leaks. Probably a very good idea to do a walnut blast at 95k though. You could do that before or after the JB4. Doesn't really matter. You'd likely just see an increase in performance. More power, better throttle response.

Walnut blast is high on the list tbh as are spark plugs.

Just a bit nervous about the parts you've mentioned as well

Bro, 335s are so over engineered you have little to worry about. JB4 wont crack ur turbos. Half the fun of owning a 335i is the ability to bolt on some parts and almost double the stock HP. Don't read to much into all the stories on the forum, shit happens but for 99% of us things work like they should. Enjoying modding your car, do as much as you can yourself to save money and bask in the satisfaction that you did it, most of all just drive it have fun

Here ends the sermon

Thanks for all your input guys. I emailed BMS this morning and enquired about what they can do to stop the customs charges. So he is going to sort something out for me. So it looks like I will be ordering one when I get home from work tonight.

There's a good local Indy that I can take it to if I do damage anything and I will just get them to wipe any and every code they can find before I take it to the stealers.

My mum and dad just returned from nyc today and they got me a few bits and bobs
Regarding customs you can ask them to reduce the cost of the items on the invoice to $100 or something.

Ordered my jb4 today. They are going to mark in invoice value down to $100 for the jb4 and $15 for the data cable. Should hopefully reduce my customs charges. I think it takes 10-14 working days! Good job I'm working away then going on holiday.

What is everyone's view on a new charge pipe? Do I wait for mine to pop or get one now? Will BMW notice a non OEM one of they look and the suspect a tune?

Any that people recommend? Not looking to fit a BOV, just keep the standard set up
