TMC: Sweyze...

Every BMW I ever owned with TMC has given me the phrase "SWEYZE" for X.X miles. I have no clue what this means and neither does the internet or dictionary. I asked Friends of mine who have BMW vehicles with TMC and they never noticed it until I pointed it out that on certain areas it uses the word "SWEYZE" to describe a traffic condition. The manual does not indicate or define the word and I certainly have no clue. Before I contact BMW/NA does anyone on here have an idea???

Across five different vehicles?

F31 28i M-Sport.
E84 X1 35i M-Sport.
E70 48i M-Sport.
E70 X5M.
F15 X5 35i.

^These are just my own experiences in my vehicles. My friend's who have F10 5series, current 7series and other BMW products have it on theirs as well.

Where do you live? It looks like Sweyze is a town in NY. If 495 goes there, that could be your answer, especially since it looks like the other lines are listing locations like Queens Village as well.

it's 70+ miles away from me but uses it the word sweyze as an adjective to describe the LIE in the area i am. i am in manhattan and it tells me the lie is sweyze for x.x miles. if you look at one of the screens it describes the LIE being sweyze in two points nowhere near the town or area that sweyze is in again being 70+ miles away.

It's telling you the towns on either end of the LIE in that direction!

nope.
It is. Go drive your car on another highway. It will say that road's name and it will not say Sweyze. Highways have names.. like Rte 30 is the Lincoln Memorial Highway. 579 in Pittsburgh is Veteran's Highway or something.

i am not on the LIE when it says this. Long Island Expressway is 495 . not sweyze.
i will take another photo illustrating this odd sweyze thing.

Definitely seems as if we are overthinking this here...Isnt't it just the closest waypoint to where the traffic alert is on the 495 Eastbound? And the traffic slowdown in the 495 Westbound in your photo is near "Maspeth"?

My traffic alerts here in LA look very similar, I guess we just don't have weird names for our communities out here?

right but the sweyze town is 70+ miles away from me and it is constantly there. it is very annoying because i didn't even know this place existed until i purchased a bmw with tmc. this does not appear on audi, mb, lr/rr only bmw.

That does seem a bit odd to me, as being in such a large metro area I would think that there would be more traffic alerts for areas closer to you. I also see the same repeat offenders appear in my traffic alerts, but typically nothing that far away.

I'm sure someone else can correct me if I'm wrong, but unless I have a route programmed into my GPS then my TMC seems to list traffic alerts based on general proximity...seems strange to me that it doesn't have any other traffic alerts closer than 70 miles away, but at least you know "Sweyze" isn't a word you need to define...it is a geographical location that the TMC is using as a waypoint, just like "Maspeth" and "Whitestone" below it.

thanks. i thought i was going crazy because with route set or without it would default to telling me about the conditions in sweyze the list immediate traffic alerts underneath which are more relevant to my location or direction of travel. this past weekend i took the i-495 into NJ and the first alert on the screen was two traffic jams in sweyze. i was 80 miles away from there headed in the opposite direction even further away. what is worse or more annoying is this is not isolated to one vehicle it is in ALL of my BMW which have TMC. i called my friend who has an f10 and was headed to the same place that i was and i asked him to check his alerts and he has it as well. very peculiar.
