Petrol prices... what's going on?

I'm not married to a Oil Sheikh's daughter.. but if I was... I would ask the question: Is sex about oil wells or being well oiled?

The petrol prices have varied greatly here over the past 4-5. Sunday gone was 1.16p, Monday was the worse at 1.18p for regular unleaded... (I use V Power but these are prices I remember driving past the station).. Tuesday... 1.14p and today... 1.11p...

As far as I remember prices never used to vary like this and remained kind of stable for a few or good few days... I guess I have answered my own question in a way there... it is something to do with a fluctuating economy... I'm not sure if there is some pattern emerging here... I will see how it goes to decide whether filling mid-week is better than the beginning or end of the week... though I doubt that will be the case.

Diesel is down to 107p now. I recently filled up and and paid 87p with Tesco fuel save, the cheapest I can ever remember seeing on the pump! Quite satisfying!

I used to enjoy tesco fuel prices with the club card points savings on my Scooby (momentum 99) but on my 320d tesco diesel makes it run horrendous 😳 only seems to like premium diesel eg bp ultimate or shell's better diesel, just my luck

It's the markets reacting in China.

The Feds have hinted that they may wait a bit longer before raising interest rates. I'm hopping the BoE do the same. Then I might be able to get a mortgage.

The sooner the prices go up, the better!!

I've enjoyed the cheap tank fills, but I'd like to try and keep in employment!

I quite like the prices staying low actually, all in all government are taking way too large a chunk for my liking.

Today, diesel was 105.7 in Asda and 105.9 at Tesco (regular diesel albeit)

Ah,
from your location I'm guessing you are in Oil and Gas. Took me a second to figure it out.

I think you're in the minority in wanting higher prices

I might just drive up to Scotland to burn off all this excess petrol. Can't give it away. lol.

Well lucky they are because the NHS is about to implode apparently and with the flood of migrants, asylum seekers etc and their families wanting free healthcare it's probably only going to accelerate. We are doomed!

The NHS is a money pit. I worked in the NHS for 2 1/2 years. The majority of non-patient facing staff work lethargically and it's the extreme opposite to working in a large commercial organisation. No pressure on targets etc.

I did notice that patient care is always prioritised over cost which meant that budgets were often exhausted/exceeded. For those who had budgets available that were unspent, they were actively encouraged to spend to avoid losing the budget or to avoid the risk of it being reduced for next year.

A bit of "commercialisation" wouldn't go amiss in the NHS.

As per migrants/asylum seekers, what's caused the sudden flood of activity?

While I understand just how bad something like the NHS could be, especially with the bureaucracy and needless management I don't want to see people's health becoming a profit making racket. The American's are in a far worse situation than we are. It's disgusting.

I could discuss migrants but I'll just be slated as an AHole.

There's something wrong in the World when people travel from Afghanistan or Syria to England and pass through all other countries along the way. I don't doubt that these people need help. Neighboring countries should be helping these people more.

I paid 111.9p for Momentum 99 last night at Tesco, 5p per litre more for the good stuff is a no brainer. My local Esso is current 114p for unleaded and 139.9 for 97 RON premium! It's on a pump all by itself that I'm sure has never been used...

Weird. My 106.9 was Esso too. Massive disparity.

Apparently the Saudis just fired up a new Diesel refinery as well.
That is why diesel is now cheaper than petrol.
Just wait till Mr Osborne gets wind of it!

Got diesel last night at 105.9 at tesco express clifton (Nottingham) it's esso branded. Thought that's pretty good. Price of oil rising again now though so it won't last.

I heard a few weeks back it's partly due to the Russians selling oil, the Saudis wanted them to sell it at x price, the Russians wanted to sell for less, so the Saudis then slashed the price of barrels to stitch up the Russians.

I was in Qatar recently, 17p for a litre of fuel!

Qatar is ridiculously cheap, my sister lives there and her husband said their prices are almost half that of Dubai's, I think Venezuela's fuel prices may even be cheaper than Qatar's!

Interesting point regarding the Russians, OPEC are a controlling body over how many barrels of oil are processed, what prices to charge per barrel etc. They monopolise and control fuel prices. The Russians are not a part of OPEC so this makes sense if they are processing more oil than OPEC like, supply increases so prices go down
