Metallic clunk noise coming from rear e92 328i
Since I bought the car last summer, it has been making a metallic clunk noise when you let off the clutch, take corners and even downshift. It happens 3/5 times, so not all the time, but mostly, and it's annoying, especially on parking lots. It looks like the sound is coming from the differential. So I went under the car to check and the input shaft flange makes a play with a similar clunk noise. Video for attention. Is it supposed to be doing that? And it's doing it on both sides

At work so didn't watch the video but your description sounds similar to an issue with the Z4s. I believe there's a TSB for the Z4 describing a fix, something about the lubricant drying out causing a clunk and the fix being to add new grease to the parts.

I've been experiencing this issue for quite sometime now in my 328. The mating surface of the input shaft is insufficiently greased, thus causing the noise.
The solution is to remove the diff flange, apply grease and thread locker to the splines, and reassemble. Check out the attachments, particularly SI B33 04 08 and RA 33 11 021. Also read this thread. The thread locker you want is BMW P/N 83 19 2 210 337 and the great is Castrol Optitemp HT 1 LF Hope this helps!

So apparently its not the differential, its my flywheel. Dual mass flywheel problems...
I've decided to leave it as is. If I will keep my car, I will convert to single mass and non self-adjusting clutch |
