N47 2008 320d engine capabilities

Hey guys, I'm really curious about how much boost an n47 can handle. I heard Diesel engines are quite tough. Also I've seen a guy make a build using 2.3 bar for 200kw. The turbo I'm getting has a potential of 3 bar. Had anyone had any experience with boosting n47's here? I guess you could only assume if the engine hasn't been tested like this before.

there are a couple of folk I've read about in Europe running that turbo making around the 300hp mark, with 535D injectors.

why are you hybridifying it?

Ah, just noticed you said GT2260, why are you not going for the GTB2260 from a later 330D? its a much better turbo than the standard GT series?

GTB2260v from a 330d and some bigger injectors and corresponding mods will easily see you beyond 200kw:

I wouldnt bother with a hybrid. Hybrids typically involve fitting larger wheels into the turbo to get more airflow, but this also increases lag. The stock turbo is already big enough. What might be useful though is upgraded bearings to better handle the high boost pressures you'll be running.

Bear in mind though, a 200kw 20d is going to be pretty laggy, because the larger turbo requires much more energy to spool it up, you end up moving the boost threshold further up the rev range. This is why higher power factory engines like the one used in the 123d or 335d use two turbos to help fill the hole.

I've seen that video, am actually buying the turbo off him, turbo comes a hybrid. Also have spoken to him about more boost and he said you will need more flow that 535d injectors. Also have seen a 120d recently diving with 3 bar, I wonder how long that engine wil last though.

Don't know much about turbos, this one is costing me $1000 aud only so it's a pretty good price, hybridised by the guy who I'm getting it off. He also shed one of these in his black e90 vid ^^^

So how long do you reckon the n47 will last with 3 bar?
