OT: residual value claims prior to launch - Jag

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/mo...values-claimed

This is such horseshit it's unreal.

How can they possibly know what the residual value of a car is in 3 years time when it's not even been launched yet.

And given that the figures are based on full list prices which no one pays for on BMWs, the expected figures are absolutely meaningless. The meaninglesness further compounded by the fact that hardly anyone is going to buy a new one with cash and then sell it after 3 years, but rather lease or contract it somehow, in which case interest rates will have a significant bearing.

So what will really count is comparing lease or PCP costs on like for like cars over the same terms... and I doubt very much Jag will win that. That shouldn't be seen as a bad thing though, perhaps they should push that higher exclusivity edge they could have.

LOL.... they are manufacturer claims, from one that is world renowned for it' products dropping like stones value wise.

Ask anyone who spent decent money on an XK8

Yes. Quite normal. You won't get on any fleet list without knowing all the metrics.

Yes indeed.

But there needs to be a degree of accuracy if you want people to continue to pay for the data

What shocked me is how low all the residuals are these days, whether any of the big premium brands. Just shows now many are out there and how competitive the market is.

But the residual is versus list price not typical price paid, so it's not like how it was say 10 years ago when BMW's had 50%+ retained value at 3 years. That's the figure is really like to see.
