2012 F10 550i or 2012 335is?

hey guys, looking for opinions! Im considering getting either an 2012 f10 550i m-sport or a e92 335is. 0-60 they are similar, although, other than that, they are completely different beasts. I haven't driven either since I'm coming from an 09 328i, but I'm mainly looking for something that will give me speed along with the ability to enjoy some spirited driving. All opinions appreciated! Purely looking to see what you guys would prefer to drive haha. Thanks!

You're looking at two different spectrums. A luxury sedan with loads of power or a sporty two door also with power. Personally I'd go with the f10

The F10 design is newer even though they're the same model year, and with a lot more power on tap. I like coupes better but it'd be hard for me to turn down the F10

Isn't that the engine that eats batteries?

I know we're all BMW owners here and expensive repairs and maintenance comes with the territory, but do you really wanna deal with this?

http://www.autospies.com/news/Huge-B...tervals-84775/

And more recently this:

http://www.roadandtrack.com/car-cult...ns-bmw-n63-v8/

Love BMW, love the F10 and V8 power, but that is a bit ridiculous. I could have all the time in the world and Bill Gates bank account and I still wouldn't want to waste my time with these issues. Unless you're okay with that then carry on. My vote goes for the 335is. I will most likely never own another BMW V8 after owning a 545i. Exception being the E39 M5.

F10 550i values on the used market will tank big time.

I agree with it being too troublesome. I would avoid it unless your only keeping it while the warranty is active and don't mind constant trips to the dealer.

wow that sounds incredibly annoying... changing the battery every time you take it in for service? the costs to maintain this engine must be incredibly high. Such a bummer. Im going to look more into it, however, it did put a serious dent into my likelihood to get the f10.

F10 with the N55 would still be nice. I very much like the look of the M-sport models with the split 5 spoke wheels in alpine white.

335is. The looks and power IMO are great. I love coupes so I'm probably biased too. Not to mention, the exhaust note is wonderful!

That's called the 535i. Can be optioned just as nicely as a 550i but without the headaches. FBO'ed you'd be in the same ballpark as a stock TT V8.

idk. gotta drive them but i would love to have both. Keep in mind I spoke with a dealer tech just last night and while they all think the n54 is frustrating, the N63 has a deep rooted hatred among them.

but to your advantage, BMWUSA is running that customer care package for the 50i cars

BMW of North America has recognized a number of N63 components with high failure rates, including timing chains that stretch and snap, leaking crankcase ventilation and fuel lines, and malfunctioning fuel injectors, mass airflow sensors, and vacuum pumps. Rather than waiting for them to break, BMW NA is proactively replacing the parts with improved components through its shrewdly named Customer Care Package, or CCP. This is not a recall, because recalls address vehicle safety. Instead, BMW says, the CCP represents its "commitment to the long-term reliability of our most technologically advanced products." It is undeniably a good customer service move.
The M63 timing chain can snap while you're driving fast in the left lane on a highway with no left shoulder and it's not a safety issue?

Is Rodent Track drinking BMW's Kool-Aid, or is their overworked staff just reprinting BMW press releases?

(I'd have to vote for "3. None of the above." Schadenfreude?)

550i M-sport all day. They're not even in the same class.

IMO even an e9x is kinda on the portly side.
I couldnt imagine how big the latest iteration of the 5 series would feel.

My guess is the 550 battery issue is fixable via aftermarket. With zero research, I'd guess recoding the car would do the trick. If not, a bigger than 105aH battery, oversized alternator, or worst case being an onboard charger.

I would imagine that somewhere in that customer care package, comes with a re-program of the alternator. If not, I'm sure some aftermarket tuners could address that...

Drive them both, then decide. If you want a highway cruiser get the F10. It drives like a much bigger car than the e92. The e92 will be more nimble but less comfortable on the highway. You really should dive them before you decide.
